Job Description

Job Summary:

The Security Shift Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the security team, ensuring the safety and security of clients and staff in a homeless shelter setting. This role requires strong leadership and communication skills, as well as the ability to make sound decisions in high-pressure situations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Train and supervise security staff on all aspects of facility operations
  • Monitor access control systems and ensure effective use of security equipment
  • Respond to incidents and utilize crisis management techniques to protect staff and clients
  • Conduct regular security and fire safety system inspections
  • Complete monthly security reports and incident reports as needed
  • Document all incidents and security-related activities in CARES and other Westhab protocols
  • Collaborate with the Security Manager to develop and implement security policies and procedures
  • Provide guidance and support to line staff and subordinates
  • Facilitate emergency response efforts, including working with EMS and NYPD as needed
  • Conduct daily security rounds to prevent and detect hazardous situations
  • Adjust staff schedules as needed due to sick calls or unexpected staff shortages
  • Maintain a safe and secure environment for clients and staff
  • Provide crisis intervention and support as needed
  • Assist with fire drills and other emergency preparedness efforts
  • Review log book entries and incident reports for accuracy and completeness
  • Attend and conduct meetings and training sessions as needed
  • Check inventory of security equipment daily and investigate any discrepancies

Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • An Associate's degree in social services, criminology, or a related field
  • A valid N.Y.S. Security Guard License, Fire Guard License (FB0 or F89), and certification in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI)
  • Strong knowledge of security systems and protocols
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including evenings and weekends
  • A valid driver's license and reliable transportation
