Job Summary

This position is located in the Administration Division of the U.S. Department of the Interior, and is responsible for providing technical support and services to the organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plans and carries out complex assignments in systems administration areas, including interpreting IT policies, standards, and requirements.
  • Modifies and adapts existing methods and approaches, implements recommendations independently or as a team member, and provides advice and guidance on complex IT issues.
  • Evaluates and recommends new or enhanced approaches to delivering IT services, and analyzes and recommends resolution of complex issues associated with the configuration of IT systems.
Requirements
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Appointment is subject to a background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirements for males.
  • Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronic Funds Transfer Program.
  • Valid driver's license is required, and selectee will be required to operate a government or private motor vehicle as part of official duties.
  • Selectee will be required to wear a uniform and comply with National Park Service uniform standards.
  • One-year probationary period is required for new employees or supervisors in the Federal government.
  • May be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old or meet one of the following conditions: have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school, have completed a formal vocational training program, have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing education, or be currently enrolled in a secondary school and work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.
Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement, unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume must clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment, and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked.

To qualify for this position at the GS-05 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:

  • IT-related experience demonstrating all of the following four competencies: attention to detail, customer service, oral communication, and problem solving.
  • Successful completion of at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management, or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems, or networks.

To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:

  • At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service, including activities such as performing IT Service Desk activities, IT customer service, first call resolution for tier one diagnosis, resolving recurring problems, determining hardware, software, and telecommunications equipment, installing, configuring, and testing software on customer workstations, and installing, configuring, upgrading, and providing basic troubleshooting for hardware and software components.
  • Successful completion of one year of graduate education in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management, or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems, or networks.
  • Meet the criteria for Superior Academic Achievement (S.A.A.) as evidenced by one of the three following methods: being in the upper third of the graduating class, having a GPA of 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0, or being a member of a national scholastic honor society.

Volunteer experience is also eligible for credit towards qualifications.

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking.
