Electrical Engineer for Advanced Accelerator Systems

Your Opportunity:
TechSource, a leading provider of maintenance and operations services, is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join our team for the Enhanced Capabilities for Subcritical Experiments (ECSE) initiative.
This role focuses on the Advanced Sources and Detectors (ASD) Project, where we are developing the Scorpius electron linear induction accelerator for diagnosing subcritical implosions at the U1a tunnel complex.
The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and supporting the procurement, assembly, installation, and commissioning of critical accelerator systems.
Ideal candidates will have strong experience in electrical system design and be available for periodic travel to Las Vegas and other vendor locations.
This is an onsite, tenured position with full-time benefits.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as a key member of an integrated design team creating electrical distribution, controls, and diagnostic designs for an advanced linear accelerator system.
- Ensure the development of quality designs that meet requirements and national standards while meeting project cost and schedule.
- Oversee the creation of electrical schematics, block diagrams, wiring diagrams, and cable drawings using Autocad Electrical.
- Check electrical drawings and designs produced by other engineers and designers.
- Troubleshoot electrical hardware using general and advanced electronic test equipment.
- Interact with physicists, engineers, and technicians to fully document electrical system designs including the incorporation of as-built drawings.
- Act as a liaison among engineers, electrical safety officers, and fabricators to resolve design and/or manufacturing issues.
- Perform engineering calculations to size electrical equipment, power distribution, and cables.
- Create content and present engineering designs at review and status meetings.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- 10+ years of relevant experience or equivalent education.
- Experience in electrical power distribution, instrumentation, and control systems design using AutoCAD Electrical.
- Proficiency in creating electrical schematics, block diagrams, wiring diagrams, and cable drawings.
- Basic knowledge of the National Electric Code (NEC) and Underwriters Laboratories (UL) listings.
- Familiarity with general test equipment (DVM, power meters, oscilloscopes, etc.).
- Experience troubleshooting analog, digital, and fiber optic systems.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with particle accelerator facility systems (electrical power, control, fluid, etc.).
- Proficiency in managing AutoCAD Electrical drawings with PDM systems.
- Design experience in high-EMI environments.
- Familiarity with National Instruments hardware/software (LabView, cRIO, PXI).
- Experience with high-current DC (up to 750ADC) and AC power systems (up to 480VAC).
- Knowledge of RF cabling (coax, SMA, N connectors) and vacuum systems operation and troubleshooting.
