Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Fleet Maintenance Technician to join our team at Strategic Workforce Development Inc. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the maintenance and repair of automobiles, light and heavy trucks, tractors, and specialized equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on fleet vehicles, including oil changes, tire rotations, and brake adjustments.
  • Diagnose and repair complex mechanical issues with heavy equipment, including engines, transmissions, and hydraulic systems.
  • Assist in the repair of heavy, earth-moving equipment, fire apparatus, and other specialized vehicles.
  • Perform electrical work on automotive electrical wiring systems, including installing batteries and terminals and correcting other defects.
  • Weld and perform machine work incidental to completion of repair assignments.
  • Keep garage areas clean and assist other mechanics in repairs of a complex nature.
  • Repair, overhaul, and maintain specialized equipment on pumpers, ladders, and other motorized fire equipment.
  • Perform operational tests of repaired equipment to certify for return to service.
Requirements
  • Three (3) months of semi-skilled experience in automotive repairs.
  • OR An equivalent combination of education and experience which may include the successful completion of an automotive repair trade school or the successful completion of a vocational technical program in automotive maintenance or completion of the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification as a master automotive/truck technician.
  • Possession of a valid State-issued driver's license in accordance with the City of KCMO policies.
  • Possession of a valid CDL (Commercial Driver's License) Class A, B, or C issued by the State of Missouri prior to the end of the employee's probationary period.
  • Possession of a valid State of Missouri Inspector Mechanic permit by the end of the probationary period.
  • Must pass a physical examination as prescribed by the City.
  • Will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Must pass a background check as prescribed by the City, of Kansas City, MO.
Benefits

Base pay is currently $22.61/hr. (with divisional latitude to consider more DOQ). City benefits are considerable, but the Fleet Division also provides required PPE (safety toe shoes and safety glasses) as well as uniforms. In our garages, the technicians provide their own tools, but receive a considerable annual tool allowance (per CBA on the contract anniversary date).
