JOB TITLE: Operations Safety and Compliance Manager

REPORTS TO: Director, Technical Operations

SUMMARY:

Under the guidance of the Facility Manager, the Operations Safety and Compliance Manager is responsible for ensuring that all capital initiatives align with the expectations of Aligned's clientele, the sanctioned project design specifications, and the operational standards and protocols. The primary aim of this position is to enhance the management of capital projects within a data center environment, guarantee the dependability of systems serving clients, and foster effective collaboration among stakeholders, clients, and contractors to ensure successful project outcomes.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as the Safety Committee Representative for the designated campus or region.
  • Implement Environmental Health & Safety policies.
  • Collaborate with the Training Manager to guarantee timely and adequate training for all personnel on newly introduced equipment or infrastructure.
  • Facilitate and evaluate site drills in partnership with the Training Manager and senior site leadership.
  • Uphold Aligned standards related to capital initiatives.
  • Ensure adherence to Aligned operational protocols.
  • Oversee all project turnover processes.
  • Drive the completion of all project punch lists.
  • Conduct quality assurance and quality control for processes and procedures associated with capital projects.
  • Authorize Level 1 and Level 2 change requests as sanctioned by the Facility Manager and site Operations Director.
  • Provide quality assurance and quality control support for all building systems and critical facility equipment.
  • Conduct routine assessments of building systems operations concerning capital projects.
  • Perform tests, rounds, and data analysis to ensure the proper functioning of critical equipment prior to handover to Operations.
  • Evaluate and monitor the safety responsibilities and capabilities of employees and contractors.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with tenants, owners, and vendors regarding ongoing capital projects.
  • Assist in updating and maintaining as-built drawings.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant codes, requisitions, government regulations, and Aligned's directives concerning capital projects.
  • Act as a technical resource for various teams involved in capital projects.
  • Serve as a liaison between clients, other departments within Aligned, and contractors executing capital projects.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least five years of progressive responsibility and oversight of building systems and critical facility equipment.
  • Professional licenses are highly preferred (electrical and mechanical).
  • Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret complex project documentation, including AutoCAD, Visio, and PDF files.
  • Proficient in project management with all stakeholders towards mutually beneficial resolutions.
  • Capable of developing installation standards and project tracking documents.
  • Ability to effectively address sensitive issues, complex inquiries, or complaints, both verbally and in writing.
  • Skilled in making effective presentations and responding to questions from groups of managers, clients, and the public.
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to customer service, whether to colleagues or clients.
  • In-depth knowledge of applicable rules, laws, codes, regulations, and ordinances in executing data/communications and MEP projects.
  • Experience in developing appropriate RFP processes and assisting in capital budget development.
  • Adept at analyzing and resolving problems involving multiple options with limited information.
  • Ability to interpret various instructions provided in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form and to work independently.
  • Advanced analytical and quantitative skills are required.
  • Proven management skills, customer service orientation, and problem-solving expertise.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure with a proactive approach to unusual situations.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and openness to new ideas and procedures.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications, including Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for training or other purposes.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, and sit.
  • Occasionally required to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, or crawl.
  • Continually required to communicate effectively.
  • Occasional exposure to wet and/or humid conditions.
  • Frequent work near moving mechanical parts.
  • Occasional exposure to outside weather conditions.
  • Noise levels in the work environment are typically moderate.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
