About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Community Development Navigator to join our team at Action for Boston Community Development, Inc., (ABCD). As a Community Development Navigator, you will play a critical role in helping returning citizens develop the skills and connections they need to succeed in their communities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide Educational and Personal Counseling: Work one-on-one with participants to establish educational and occupational goals, identify skill development needs, and provide related counseling as required.
  • Case Management and Coaching: Provide case management, assessment, and coaching to participant caseloads, ensuring adequate program attendance and resolving discipline or communication problems.
  • Program Outreach and Recruitment: Take the lead in ensuring that information concerning the program and recruitment and outreach of prospective students is carried out in all neighborhoods and groups of eligible students.
  • Supportive Counseling and Referrals: Utilize participants' engagement in program to identify supportive service needs, provide related counseling, and make appropriate referrals.
  • Job Training and Education: Lead and/or assist new participants in job training or educational programs, ensuring their successful participation.
  • Weekly Support Workshops: Conduct weekly support workshops for the diverse population of program participants.
  • Counseling Records and Data Management: Maintain counseling records, record related assessment data, and Individual Service Strategies.
  • Other Related Duties: Perform other related duties as assigned from time to time.
Requirements
  • A minimum of a high school diploma/GED or equivalent, 1-3 years of relevant experience, and some college coursework or professional certification required.
  • A Bachelor's degree in education, social work, human services, social science, or related field is preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of working with a diverse customer base, knowledge of Boston's neighborhoods, and familiarity with local childcare business.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, as well as strong planning and time management skills.
  • Bilingual skills are preferred, not required.
  • Flexibility, initiative, and ability to work in a team required.
  • Ability to deal sensitively and effectively with individuals of diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
