Job Overview

Position: Senior Municipal Engineer

This role is designed for a seasoned professional who will oversee and enhance Apex Engineering Group's Municipal services for both public and private sector clients. The individual will play a pivotal role in managing and expanding our Municipal services in the North Dakota market. A successful candidate will be tasked with formulating and implementing both short-term and long-term revenue strategies, overseeing project budgets, recruiting essential personnel, and seeking new project and client opportunities. The individual will report directly to the Municipal Sector Leader and will be expected to engage in face-to-face meetings with key municipal engineers and operations staff. Additionally, the candidate will be involved in promoting the company through relevant industry organizations.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee all facets of client relationships, discussing potential project opportunities, RFP details, and contract evaluations.
  • Establish and nurture strategic partnerships to effectively secure projects and deliver high-quality municipal and infrastructure design and construction services.
  • Collaborate with other sector leaders within the organization regarding project pursuits and staffing needs.
  • Adhere to and promote strategic initiatives and objectives for the municipal sector in North Dakota.
  • Demonstrate strong mentorship capabilities for project engineers in contract development, project profitability, and risk management.
  • Engage in business development and marketing efforts related to municipal services with both prospective and existing clients.
  • Participate in relevant conferences and professional seminars to advance Apex's mission in growing municipal services.
  • Coordinate project pursuit efforts, including prospecting, positioning, proposing, and performance management for projects that significantly impact revenue.
  • Contribute to municipal leadership team meetings.
  • Responsible for recruiting and hiring strategic roles that align with company growth objectives.
  • Utilize effective communication skills in various settings, including public meetings and professional seminars.
  • Provide the Municipal Sector Leader with financial and progress updates on municipal operations.
  • Stay informed on the latest advancements in civil engineering technology and concepts relevant to the North Dakota municipal market, making recommendations as necessary.
  • Comply with company policies and safety regulations.
  • Execute responsibilities with a high degree of integrity, attention to detail, and ethical standards.
  • Work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Engage in professional organizations and community leadership initiatives.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Municipal Sector Leader.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering with over 10 years of municipal engineering experience, including a minimum of 7 years in project management, primarily in North Dakota.
  • Licensed engineer authorized to practice in North Dakota.
  • Preferred experience and knowledge in municipal engineering, construction, and public works/utilities in North Dakota.
  • Familiarity with public agencies in North Dakota is advantageous.
  • Experience in business development and personnel management within the consulting engineering sector is preferred.
  • Active involvement in relevant professional organizations beneficial to Apex and the municipal sector.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Windows/Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • A valid driver's license is required or the ability to obtain one.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to operate a computer in a standard office environment.
  • Must effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Capable of lifting and moving objects up to 25 pounds.
  • May require extended periods of standing and walking for certain tasks.
  • Must be able to fulfill scheduled work hours.
