Position Overview

Location: Dickinson, ND

Apex Engineering Group is seeking a qualified Lead Engineer to oversee our Municipal Group. This role involves directing a team of engineers, technicians, and support personnel on various municipal projects from inception through to construction. The ideal candidate will be adept at managing projects independently while also fostering collaboration within the team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver professional engineering services to clients, including studies, planning, design, specifications, and project management.
  • Maintain effective communication with clients, supervisors, and team members throughout all project phases.
  • Participate in meetings as necessary to ensure project alignment and progress.
  • Lead proposal preparation and engage in interviews to secure new business opportunities.
  • Exercise independent judgment and initiative in project management.
  • Guide engineering technicians and team members in developing project plans and specifications.
  • Collaborate with other engineering teams on complex, multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Adhere to company policies and safety regulations.
  • Conduct responsibilities with a high level of professionalism and attention to detail.
  • Work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Engage in professional organizations and community leadership initiatives.
  • Be prepared for travel and occasional overtime during peak construction periods.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering is required; a Master's degree is advantageous.
  • Professional Engineer license preferred or the ability to obtain one within 6-12 months.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in civil engineering, specifically in the municipal sector.
  • Experience in civil design, including water/sewer utilities, roadways, and drainage systems is preferred.
  • Familiarity with local, county, or state agencies is a plus.
  • Strong project management and construction management skills are essential.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities are required.
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and possess strong organizational skills.
  • Flexible work style with the ability to adapt to changing deadlines and client needs.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD/Civil-3D, Microstation/GeoPak, Google-SketchUP Pro, or ARCMap GIS is beneficial.
  • A valid driver's license is necessary.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to operate a computer in a standard office environment.
  • Willingness to work outdoors during construction seasons.
  • Capability to stand and walk for extended periods as required for construction observation or surveying.
  • Ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Must adhere to scheduled work hours.
