Position Overview

Location: Dickinson, ND

Apex Engineering Group is seeking a Lead Engineer to join our Municipal Group. This role is pivotal in overseeing a team of engineers, technicians, and support personnel on various municipal projects, guiding them from initial planning through to design and construction phases.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver professional engineering services, including studies, planning, design, specifications, plans, reports, and project management.
  • Maintain consistent communication with clients, supervisors, and project teams, providing updates throughout all project phases.
  • Participate in company, project, and client meetings as necessary.
  • Lead the preparation of proposals and engage in interviews to secure new projects, with increasing responsibilities in business development as experience grows.
  • Exhibit independent thinking and sound judgment in decision-making.
  • Guide engineering technicians and team members in developing project plans and specifications.
  • Collaborate with other engineering teams on complex, multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Adhere to company policies and safety regulations.
  • Execute responsibilities with a strong attention to detail and ethical standards.
  • Work effectively both independently and within a team setting.
  • Engage in professional organizations and community leadership initiatives as appropriate.
  • Be prepared for travel and potential overtime, especially during peak construction periods.
  • Undertake additional duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering is required; a Master's degree is advantageous.
  • Professional Engineer's License is preferred or the ability to obtain one within 6-12 months.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in civil engineering within the municipal sector.
  • Experience in creating civil design drawings, specifications, and cost estimates related to water/sewer utilities, roadways, and drainage is preferred.
  • Familiarity with local, county, or state agencies is a plus.
  • Strong project management skills are essential.
  • Experience in construction management is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are mandatory.
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, with strong interpersonal and organizational abilities.
  • Flexible working style with a willingness to adjust schedules to meet deadlines and client needs.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Windows/Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD/Civil-3D, Microstation/GeoPak, Google-SketchUP Pro, or ARCMap GIS is considered beneficial.
  • A valid driver's license is required or the ability to obtain one.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to operate a computer in a standard office environment.
  • Willingness to work outdoors during construction seasons.
  • May require prolonged periods of standing and walking for construction observation or surveying tasks.
  • Must be able to lift objects or containers weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Must adhere to scheduled working hours.
