Position Overview

In alignment with NSCWDD's B Department, specifically Codes B40 and B60, this role demands expertise in sensor systems throughout the entire acquisition lifecycle, from initial concept to the ongoing support of US Navy (USN) and US Marine Corps (USMC) radar systems. The systems involved include Dual Band Radar (DBR), Ground Air Task Oriented Radar (G/ATOR), AN/SPY-1, AN/SPY-6, Enhanced Radar Data Display System (ERDDS), Enhanced Coherent Data Collection System (ECDCS), Littoral Combat Ship (LCS), among others.
Key Responsibilities

Primary Duties:

  • Assist in the formulation and implementation of systems engineering strategies from requirements gathering to design validation. Develop and execute engineering approaches in line with sanctioned project acquisition strategies:
  • Conduct necessary technical analysis and systems engineering support to enhance architecture design, interoperability, specification analysis, and development, as well as solutions implementation and project sustainment;
  • Create test and evaluation documentation, including laboratory testing plans, new technology evaluation documents, usability engineering documents, and laboratory testing of software/hardware test articles developed by the product design team;
  • Research and formulate systems/subsystem specification documents, ensuring compliance, completeness, and consistency of component and interface requirements with current and evolving system requirements and architectures.
  • Engage in signal processing activities, including waveform, clutter management, and electronic protection development; design electronic compatibility into systems; and support data collection and analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of signal processing systems.

Work Environment:

Responsibilities may take place in government or contractor office settings or laboratory environments, as well as fieldwork in direct support of USN/USMC organizations. This may involve working on U.S. and/or foreign naval vessels, piers, dry docks, or other non-office environments as necessary.

Physical Requirements:

Travel to USN piers, ships, and dry docks may be required, along with travel between local contractor and government locations.

Qualifications

Security Clearance:

  • Applicants must be U.S. Citizens with an Active Secret (or higher) DoD Security Clearance.
  • Entry Level candidates must be U.S. Citizens eligible to obtain Secret DoD Security Clearance.

Educational Requirements:

Candidates must meet one or more of the following:

  • A Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Electronics Engineering.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, or Physics from an accredited institution.
  • A Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, or Physics from an accredited institution.
  • A Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, or Physics from an accredited institution.

Experience and Skills:

General Sensor Engineering Experience:

Experience is defined as post-degree experience:

Principal Level Engineer/Scientist:

  • At least twenty (20) years with a Bachelor's degree
  • At least fifteen (15) years with a Master's degree
  • At least ten (10) years with a Ph.D. degree

Senior Level Engineer/Scientist:

  • At least fifteen (15) years with a Bachelor's degree
  • At least twelve (12) years with a Master's degree
  • At least eight (8) years with a Ph.D. degree

Journeyman Level Engineer/Scientist:

  • At least four (4) years with a Bachelor's degree
  • At least two (2) years with a Master's degree

Entry Level Engineer/Scientist:

Must meet educational requirements. Related professional experience (military service, internship, etc.) is preferred.

Specialized Experience:

Principal Level Engineer/Scientist:

  • Minimum of eight years of experience in complex radar system engineering, design, analysis, or sensor software development.
  • At least two years of managerial/supervisory experience to ensure effective direction and oversight of subordinates.
  • Strong technical background demonstrated through certifiable experience in formulating opinions, decisions, and performance of tasks specified in contract statements of work.
  • Proven ability to perform detailed and complex calculations and knowledge of practices/principles necessary to assess advanced radar systems concepts, specifications, and system integration.

Senior Level Engineer/Scientist:

  • Minimum of five years of experience in complex radar system engineering, design, analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience in defining and allocating complex radar system software requirements.
  • Strong technical background demonstrated through certifiable experience in formulating opinions, decisions, and performance of tasks specified in contract statements of work.
  • Proven ability to perform detailed and complex calculations and knowledge of practices/principles necessary to assess advanced sensor systems concepts, specifications, and system integration.

Journeyman Level Engineer/Scientist:

  • Demonstrated experience and ability to perform detailed and complex calculations and knowledge of practices/principles necessary to assess advanced sensor systems concepts, specifications, and system integration.
