This role involves providing expertise in sensor systems throughout the acquisition lifecycle, specifically for US Navy (USN) and US Marine Corps (USMC) radar systems. Key systems include Dual Band Radar (DBR), Ground Air Task Oriented Radar (G/ATOR), AN/SPY-1, AN/SPY-6, Enhanced Radar Data Display System (ERDDS), Enhanced Coherent Data Collection System (ECDCS), Littoral Combat Ship (LCS), among others.
Key Responsibilities
Primary Duties:
- Assist in the formulation and implementation of systems engineering strategies from requirement identification to design validation.
- Conduct technical analyses and provide systems engineering support to enhance architecture design, interoperability, and specification development.
- Create test and evaluation documentation, including laboratory testing protocols and technology assessment reports.
- Draft and refine systems and subsystem specification documents, ensuring alignment with evolving system requirements and information architectures.
- Engage in signal processing activities, focusing on waveform management, electronic protection, and data analysis to evaluate signal processing effectiveness.
Work Environment:
Responsibilities may be performed in office or laboratory settings, as well as in the field, supporting USN/USMC operations. This may involve work on naval vessels or in various non-office environments as necessary.
Physical Requirements:
Travel to various operational sites may be required, including naval piers and vessels.
QualificationsSecurity Clearance:
- Applicants must be U.S. Citizens with an Active Secret (or higher) DoD Security Clearance.
- Entry Level candidates must be eligible to obtain a Secret DoD Security Clearance.
Educational Background:
Candidates must possess one or more of the following:
- A Bachelor's degree in an ABET-accredited engineering discipline such as Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, or Electronics Engineering.
- A Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, or Physics from an accredited institution.
- A Master's or Ph.D. degree in the aforementioned fields.
Experience and Skills:
General Sensor Engineering Experience:
Experience is defined as post-degree professional practice:
Principal Engineer/Scientist:
- At least 20 years with a Bachelor's degree.
- At least 15 years with a Master's degree.
- At least 10 years with a Ph.D.
Senior Engineer/Scientist:
- At least 15 years with a Bachelor's degree.
- At least 12 years with a Master's degree.
- At least 8 years with a Ph.D.
Journeyman Engineer/Scientist:
- At least 4 years with a Bachelor's degree.
- At least 2 years with a Master's degree.
Entry Level Engineer/Scientist:
Must meet educational requirements; relevant experience is preferred.
Specialized Experience:
Principal Engineer/Scientist:
- Minimum of 8 years in radar system engineering, design, or sensor software development.
- At least 2 years in a managerial role overseeing project teams.
- Proven technical expertise in radar systems analysis and integration.
Senior Engineer/Scientist:
- Minimum of 5 years in radar system engineering and design.
- Experience in defining complex radar system software requirements.
Journeyman Engineer/Scientist:
- Demonstrated ability in performing complex calculations and assessments of sensor systems.
