In the context of NSCWDD's B Department, specifically Codes B40 and B60, this role entails providing expertise in sensor systems throughout the entire acquisition lifecycle, from initial concept to ongoing support for US Navy (USN) and US Marine Corps (USMC) radar systems. The systems under our purview include Dual Band Radar (DBR), Ground Air Task Oriented Radar (G/ATOR), AN/SPY-1, AN/SPY-6, Enhanced Radar Data Display System (ERDDS), Enhanced Coherent Data Collection System (ECDCS), Littoral Combat Ship (LCS), among others.
Key Responsibilities

Primary Job Functions:

  • Assist in the formulation and implementation of systems engineering strategies from requirements gathering to design validation. Develop and execute engineering plans in alignment with established project acquisition strategies:
  • Conduct technical analyses and provide systems engineering support to enhance architecture design, interoperability, specification analysis, solution implementation, and project sustainment;
  • Create testing and evaluation documentation, including laboratory testing protocols, new technology assessment documents, usability engineering reports, and laboratory testing of software/hardware test items produced by the design team;
  • Research and generate systems/subsystem specification documents, ensuring compliance, completeness, and consistency of component and interface requirements with current and evolving system needs, information architectures, and systems.
  • Support signal processing initiatives, including waveform design, clutter management, and electronic protection development; integrate electronic compatibility into systems; and assist in data collection and analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of signal processing systems.

Work Environment:

Responsibilities may take place in government or contractor office settings, laboratories, or field environments in direct support of USN/USMC operations. This may involve working on naval vessels, piers, dry docks, or other non-office locations as necessary.

Physical Requirements:

Travel to USN piers, ships, and dry docks may be required, along with travel between local contractor and government sites.

Qualifications

Security Clearance:

  • Applicants must be U.S. Citizens with an Active Secret (or higher) DoD Security Clearance.
  • Entry Level candidates must be U.S. Citizens eligible to obtain a Secret DoD Security Clearance.

Educational Requirements:

Candidates must fulfill one or more of the following criteria:

  • A Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Electronics Engineering.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, or Physics from an accredited institution.
  • A Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, or Physics from an accredited institution.
  • A Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, or Physics from an accredited institution.

Experience and Skills:

General Sensor Engineering Experience:

Experience is defined as time since degree completion:

Principal Level Engineer/Scientist:

  • At least twenty (20) years with a Bachelor's degree
  • At least fifteen (15) years with a Master's degree
  • At least ten (10) years with a Ph.D. degree

Senior Level Engineer/Scientist:

  • At least fifteen (15) years with a Bachelor's degree
  • At least twelve (12) years with a Master's degree
  • At least eight (8) years with a Ph.D. degree

Journeyman Level Engineer/Scientist:

  • At least four (4) years with a Bachelor's degree
  • At least two (2) years with a Master's degree

Entry Level Engineer/Scientist:

Must meet educational requirements. Relevant professional experience (military service, internships, etc.) is preferred.

Specialized Experience:

Principal Level Engineer/Scientist:

  • Minimum of eight years in complex radar system engineering, design, analysis, or sensor software development.
  • At least two years of managerial/supervisory experience to ensure effective oversight of team members.
  • Strong technical background demonstrated through verifiable experience in formulating decisions and executing tasks outlined in contract statements of work.
  • Proven ability to perform detailed calculations and knowledge of principles necessary for assessing advanced radar systems concepts and performing system integration.

Senior Level Engineer/Scientist:

  • Minimum of five years in complex radar system engineering, design, analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience in defining and allocating complex radar system software requirements.
  • Strong technical background demonstrated through verifiable experience in formulating decisions and executing tasks outlined in contract statements of work.
  • Proven ability to perform detailed calculations and knowledge of principles necessary for assessing advanced sensor systems concepts and performing system integration.

Journeyman Level Engineer/Scientist:

  • Demonstrated ability to perform detailed calculations and knowledge of principles necessary for assessing advanced sensor systems concepts and performing system integration.
