Position Responsibilities
- Conducts pre-analytical tasks associated with laboratory testing, including maintenance of equipment, inventory management, and specimen collection as required.
- Executes all laboratory tests and analytical procedures accurately and efficiently, adhering to established protocols and performance standards.
- Handles post-analytical processes, ensuring accurate reporting of results and providing essential technical support for laboratory testing across all age demographics.
- Facilitates training and orientation for new staff and students, documenting their progress under the guidance of laboratory leadership.
- Offers support and guidance to laboratory technicians and staff, addressing customer service inquiries and enhancing workflow as necessary.
- Adheres to safety protocols, including the proper use of personal protective equipment and compliance with chemical hygiene and infection control policies.
- Engages in performance improvement initiatives within the laboratory and hospital settings.
- Participates in the evaluation and implementation of new laboratory techniques and assists with data collection for special projects.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Proficient technical skills related to laboratory testing and procedures, particularly in hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, chemistry, and blood banking.
- Ensures compliance with corporate policies and local, state, and federal regulations, safeguarding patient confidentiality at all times.
- Ability to work autonomously and manage shifting priorities while directing workflow effectively.
- Competence in maintaining laboratory equipment and conducting quality assessments.
- Capability to educate and mentor new personnel in laboratory practices.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact professionally with diverse individuals.
- Basic computer proficiency, including familiarity with Microsoft Office, to manage patient documentation and testing records.
Education and Experience
- Associate's degree in a relevant scientific field or equivalent training.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in medical technology or a related field.
- One year of clinical laboratory experience is advantageous.
- New graduates are encouraged to apply.
Licensure and Certification
- National certification as a Medical Technician, Medical Laboratory Scientist, or Medical Technologist is required.
