About the Role

Gundersen Health System is seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technician to join our Core Laboratory team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for performing routine laboratory testing on a variety of specimens and demonstrating competency within the full scope of laboratory procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform automated and non-automated laboratory testing, recognizing unexpected test results and troubleshooting to determine cause and take corrective action.
  • Plan and prioritize workload demands, working as a team to ensure the laboratory delivers high-quality laboratory test results in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Assist with processing and collection of specimens by clinically acceptable means, including phlebotomy and capillary draws, and point-of-care testing.
  • Monitor Quality Control, Quality Assurance, and variance reporting, ensuring performance standards are met.
  • Understand the flow of laboratory data and information via laboratory information systems and electronic health records, providing guidance for others during times of failure to ensure laboratory data continues to be delivered in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Participate as a member of a team to select, validate, and implement new test methodologies/instrumentation, gaining technical expertise related to new technologies and training and educating others within the laboratory.
  • Evaluate cost-effectiveness for laboratory products from various vendors and suppliers.
Requirements
  • Associate degree in chemical, physical, or biological science or medical laboratory technology.
  • Proficiency in laboratory techniques, including blood sampling, specimen collection, processing, and analysis.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work with precision.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot technical issues.
  • ASCP Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) Certification is preferred but not required.
