Medical Laboratory Scientist

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our team in the Microbiology department at UChicago Medicine AdventHealth Great Lakes. As a Medical Laboratory Scientist, you will be responsible for performing various laboratory procedures, including specimen processing, PCR testing, and working up positive blood cultures.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform assigned pre-analytical activities related to laboratory testing, including general and analytical equipment maintenance, inventory control, and specimen collection.
- Perform all expected tests and analytical procedures for assigned department or work area efficiently and accurately, according to established procedures and performance standards.
- Provide and act on technical and support information related to the elements of laboratory testing for all age groups, neonatal through geriatric patients.
- Provide guidance to technicians and support staff, resolution to customer service issues within guidelines, and support education to clinical staff as appropriate or requested.
- Participate in laboratory and hospital Performance Improvement activities, and assist with data collection and special projects as assigned.
Requirements
- Associates' degree in chemical, physical or biological science or medical laboratory or equivalent education and training required.
- Must hold a national certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist, such as ASCP, AAB, or AMT, unless grandfathered per state requirement.
- Bachelor's degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory, chemical, physical or biological preferred.
- One year of Clinical Lab experience preferred.
