Responsibilities

Each individual performs waived, moderate, or highly complex tests authorized by CA, Bus. & Prof. Code (Sections § a)(b)(c), §1261, §1210, §1269, §1260.3, 17 CFR 1031 (b) (1-5), 17 CFR and must possess a degree of skill commensurate with individual's education, training or experience and technical abilities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Performing a wide variety of laboratory procedures requiring independent judgment using both manual and automated methods in Hematology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology, Immunology, and any other discipline as introduced into the laboratory.
  • Reviewing the accuracy of patient results prior to releasing or reporting.
  • Ensuring that the testing of proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples and that collaboration with other laboratories is prohibited prior to the reporting of proficiency testing results to the appropriate agencies.
  • May be required to perform venipuncture or capillary puncture on various age groups from newborn to geriatrics.
  • Assisting in the development and maintenance of laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Adhering to all department and hospital policies and procedures related to safety, infection control, emergency preparedness, and human resources.

Qualifications

Requires a minimum one-year work experience performing high complexity testing in hematology, chemistry, blood bank, and microbiology, or have trained at an approved internship training program.

Training or work experience must be comprehensive to cover all areas of the clinical laboratory.

Requires a Bachelor's Degree in biological science, chemical, physical, biological science, Medical Laboratory Technology and/or equivalent from an accredited institution, or other educational requirements as stated in California Code of Registration, Title 17, Section 1032, Clinical Laboratory Scientist (generalist).

Requires current and valid California State License.

Benefits

La Palma Intercommunity Hospital offers competitive compensation and a reasonable compensation estimate for this role is $55.00.

The exact starting compensation to be offered will be determined at the time of selecting an applicant for hire, in which a wide range of factors will be considered, including but not limited to, skillset, years of applicable experience, education, credentials and licensure.
