We are looking for a Senior Safety Manager who will be responsible for the effective administration of safety protocols within our clinical laboratory settings, ensuring a secure and incident-free workplace.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, execute, and oversee a comprehensive safety program that fosters a secure environment for personnel, equipment, and processes.
  • Ensure adherence to all relevant regulatory safety standards across various laboratory departments, including but not limited to cell culture, molecular diagnostics, and biorepository facilities.
  • Continuously enhance the safety program by analyzing historical safety data and integrating updates in safety practices.
  • Act as the authority on regulatory and industry safety standards, including OSHA, CAP/CLIA, and FDA regulations.
  • Collaborate with management to create and implement effective safety training initiatives for new hires and ongoing staff development.
  • Supervise safety committees and safety officers across all laboratory locations.
  • Establish and manage an internal safety audit program.
  • Conduct regular audits to ensure compliance with safety policies and procedures.
  • Oversee inspections by regulatory agencies.
  • Ensure that emergency response and fire drills are conducted across all laboratory sites.
  • Serve as the Chemical Hygiene Officer, responsible for all related duties.
  • Develop and implement a robust Chemical Hygiene Plan across multiple laboratories.
  • Design and execute a process for investigating and preventing safety-related incidents.
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to support Tempus' Emergency Response plan.
  • Manage the reporting system for incidents, injuries, and near-misses, ensuring timely and accurate documentation.
  • Conduct root cause analyses for incidents and implement corrective actions to mitigate future risks.
  • Collaborate with staff and leadership to foster a culture of 'Safety First'.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate potential hazards within laboratory environments.
  • Review and maintain safety policies for laboratory departments.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal guidelines for chemical and biohazardous material disposal.
  • Coordinate with hazardous waste disposal vendors.
  • Ensure timely submission of all required internal and external safety reports.
  • Develop and implement safety policies for warehouse and inventory control.
  • Conduct timely safety assessments across laboratory locations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field is required; Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
  • 5+ years of experience in implementing occupational safety programs with a strong understanding of safety regulations.
  • Experience in developing and executing emergency action plans.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated initiative and accountability for actions and outcomes.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in writing and during presentations.
  • Commitment to achieving total safety excellence.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 50% of the time.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
