Position Overview

Job Title: Physical Education Instructor

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Employment Type: Part-Time

Reporting Structure: Reports to the Principal

Role Purpose: The primary objective of this role is to enhance each student's comprehension of the connection between physical health and exercise. The instructor will inspire students to adopt healthy lifestyles, develop physical fitness, and foster social and emotional well-being. The position aims to identify and nurture students' talents in physical activities, promoting strength, skill, agility, and coordination through various individual, dual, and team sports, tailored to each student's capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and execute engaging physical education classes for students in grades K-8, introducing a diverse range of activities, games, and sports that encourage lifelong fitness and teamwork.
  • Instruct students in physical fitness, health education, rhythm, dance, and various sports, employing suitable learning methods.
  • Analyze, demonstrate, and clarify fundamental skills, knowledge, and strategies related to sports, game rhythms, and body movement principles.
  • Provide personalized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to meet individual student needs.
  • Ensure safety by conducting equipment checks and overseeing field areas to maintain a secure environment for students.
  • Manage the storage and utilization of school property, including selecting and ordering uniforms and equipment while maintaining inventory records.
  • Establish and uphold standards of student behavior to create a structured and productive physical education setting.
  • Assess each student's progress in physical skills, knowledge, and contributions to team sports.
  • Engage in professional development through in-service training and self-directed growth opportunities.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and school counselors regarding student progress.
  • Identify student needs and collaborate with other staff members to address health, attitude, and learning challenges.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Principal.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Physical Education or a related discipline.
  • Valid Teacher certification in Health and Physical Education.
  • Prior teaching experience is preferred.
Additional Requirements:
  • All employees are expected to respect the teachings and principles of the Catholic Church regarding faith and morals.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the Physical Education curriculum and general knowledge of K-8 Physical Education standards.
  • Applicants should demonstrate a passion for Physical Education, teaching, and working with children, along with a commitment to nurturing student development.
  • Awareness of the developmental characteristics of students across various grades.
  • Enthusiasm for the school's mission and a collaborative spirit with fellow educators.
Physical Requirements: Candidates must be physically fit to perform the duties of this role, including the ability to stand for extended periods, walk, reach, climb, and maintain manual dexterity. The role may involve lifting up to 25 pounds and requires good hearing and vision capabilities.

Work Environment: The position is based in a typical school setting, requiring flexibility to work beyond standard hours for meetings and events.
