Overview

Oversee the operations of the Technical Accounting division, which encompasses essential functions such as General Ledger management. Act as the accounting authority and strategic partner for internal business units, guiding the team towards process enhancements while providing comprehensive leadership.

Manage the development, routine evaluation, and maintenance of risks, processes, controls, and metrics within the respective teams. Collaborate with the Assistant Vice President of Technical Accounting to formulate a talent strategy that includes talent development and succession planning, and spearhead the execution of this strategy within the team. Work alongside the Assistant Vice President to align ongoing operational strategies with corporate and departmental objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee group operations and manage the accounting activities necessary for maintaining the company's general ledger and associated financial statements.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of financial statements, general ledger structures, and related charts of accounts.
  • Facilitate collaboration across the organization to ensure timely and precise recording of transactions and accounting activities, including analytical reviews for completeness and accuracy.
  • Supervise and manage the monthly closing process and related activities, including monthly forecasts and the review/approval of all entries.
  • Coordinate with the Accounting Policy team to ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure timely completion of daily and monthly reconciliations, addressing any significantly aged un-reconciled amounts as per policy.
  • Collaborate with the Product Optimization team and Corporate Systems to ensure accurate general ledger interface activity and resolve discrepancies.
  • Handle requests from auditors and regulators, including follow-up inquiries.
Subject Matter Expertise
  • Serve as the accounting subject matter expert and liaison for internal business partners and key external contacts.
  • Research and analyze complex accounting transactions affecting Technical Accounting, providing guidance to business partners.
  • Lead the team in conducting technical research and effectively communicating findings to the appropriate audience.
  • Guide internal business partners in maintaining and modifying financial reporting systems, ensuring the seamless flow of financial information.
  • Respond to inquiries from management regarding financial results and complex accounting transactions.
  • Ensure key controls are implemented and regularly reviewed for necessary updates.
Financial Systems Development
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with the Product Optimization team to facilitate the implementation of new systems and process improvements.
  • Analyze processes to identify operational efficiencies and recommend automated solutions for manual tasks.
  • Collaborate with Information Services and other business units to provide expertise on group processes and assist in writing business requirements.
  • Manage the impact of corporate projects on the general ledger and financials, providing support to project teams and stakeholders.
Managerial Supervision
  • Establish goals and objectives that align with departmental policies and key results.
  • Select and onboard the right talent for the team, ensuring a positive experience.
  • Develop a talent strategy that clarifies expectations, measures performance, and provides timely feedback.
  • Execute a plan that supports investment in talent development and succession planning.
  • Assist with budget requirements and contribute to forecasting.
  • Monitor major project statuses and provide updates to leadership on progress and issues.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Extensive experience in financial accounting and management, including analysis and reporting techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage teams in a corporate environment and drive the achievement of objectives.
  • Prior supervisory experience in financial reporting or general ledger areas, showcasing strong leadership skills.
  • Ability to lead the team in developing talent strategies and operational efficiencies.
  • Proficient in managing multiple priorities in both independent and team settings.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information clearly.
  • Experience in researching and applying GAAP and Accounting Standard Codifications.
  • Proven track record as a change agent, managing and executing change initiatives.
  • Ability to represent the team in various settings, including with executives.
Desired Qualifications
  • Certified Public Accountant in good standing.
  • Experience with Big 4 public accounting firms.
  • Familiarity with PeopleSoft and ERP implementation.
  • Thorough knowledge of relevant policies and regulations.
