Laboratory Services Manager

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Laboratory Services Manager to join our team at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for managing and developing overall operations for designated areas of responsibility, ensuring a high standard of care is consistently delivered.

- Align daily work with individual, section, departmental, and organizational goals, and objectives.
- Resolve technical and personnel problems collaboratively and incorporate shared decision making as situations allow.
- Investigate and document incidents, complaints, and other adverse situations, using tools to seek root cause to seek solutions and improvements rather than assign blame.
- Coordinate and integrate interdepartmental and intradepartmental services, facilitating integration where feasible.
- Establish and maintain liaison with organizational leaders and other healthcare professionals to provide continuum of care.
- Develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures that guide and support provision of services while meeting all regulatory requirements.
- Perform financial planning and budget development for designated departments in compliance with system fiscal goals and guidelines.
- Participate in hiring and developing staff.
- Coach team members and clarify performance expectations for each.
- Provide timely feedback in a positive manner that supports staff success and promotes ownership and commitment.
- Complete annual performance evaluations.
- Actively promote a lean culture by performing duties to promote an understanding and consistent use of lean principals and processes.
- Perform standard work of a value-stream manager, including metric reviews, audits, Gemba walks, standard work, Kanban, and idea board.
- 5 years of clinical laboratory experience in a high complexity laboratory
- 2 years of supervisory or managerial experience
- 8 years of clinical laboratory experience
- Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology, chemical, biological, clinical laboratory science from an accredited institution or Bachelor of Science in Histology or Cytotechnology
- Certification as a Medical Technologist (ASCP or equivalent) or Histotechnologist (ASCP)
- Histotechnologist certification required for Histology/AP Manager
- Broad use of independent judgement and responsibility
- Strives for adult-adult relationships with staff and provides support that promotes staff engagement, success, and ownership of morale and interactions with other staff
- Invites staff to hold one another accountable
