Position OverviewAs a Senior Materials Science Technology Leader, you will take charge of developing innovative materials, spearheading new product introductions, and offering critical technical support to our valued clients.
Your role will encompass the exciting challenge of formulating advanced high-temperature fusion processes and providing essential manufacturing technical assistance.
Working collaboratively with our team, you will play a vital role in transitioning products and processes from initial development stages to high-volume production.
Additionally, you will contribute to the management of our team of Technology Technicians and significantly influence the future of materials technology within our organization.
Key Responsibilities- Develop new quartz products and processes by leveraging technical expertise to address emerging market and application needs.
- Lead new product introduction initiatives in collaboration with cross-functional teams and external validation partners, including conducting IP research, feasibility testing, prototyping, gauge development, pilot testing, and cost model analysis.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, and EHS teams to facilitate the scale-up and transfer of technology.
- Utilize project management skills for effective planning, budgeting, time management, resource allocation, and risk assessment.
- Generate intellectual property, including patents, publications, and internal reports, while also supporting the creation of marketing materials, technical training presentations, and procedures for commercial and manufacturing teams.
- Provide manufacturing technical support related to high-temperature processing of quartz and quartz-containing materials.
- Apply Six Sigma methodologies and various statistical and materials characterization tools for process enhancement, failure analysis, and troubleshooting.
• PhD in Material Science & Engineering or Glass Science
• 5+ years of industry experience
• Expertise in the design and operation of high-temperature processing equipment for quartz, glass, or ceramics.
• Proficient in statistical design and analysis of experimental data, including design of experiments, hypothesis testing, and Gage R&R.
• Proven project management experience with effective planning and prioritization of projects that have a significant business impact.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with manufacturing, suppliers, and customers to achieve project objectives within established timelines and budgets.
• Capability to perform hands-on work in an industrial setting while adhering to safety protocols and effectively engaging in a matrixed environment.
• Management experience is preferred, with shared responsibility for overseeing a team of technology technicians.
• A strong sense of accountability, urgency, and self-direction.
• Experience with or design of quartz fusion processes, including electric fusion, arc fusion, and flame fusion.
• Familiarity with various analytical tools used to assess ambient and high-temperature properties of fused silica and ceramics.
• Experience in designing products for semiconductor processing equipment and knowledge of the semiconductor tool market.
• Six Sigma training and/or certifications.
