Job Description

As a Senior Materials Scientist and Technology Leader at Momentive Technologies, you will play a pivotal role in driving innovation and advancing the company's position as a leader in the fused quartz, ceramics, and crucibles industry.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement new high-temperature materials processes and products to meet emerging market demands.
  • Lead cross-functional teams in the development and launch of new products, ensuring timely and within-budget delivery.
  • Provide technical support to manufacturing teams, ensuring seamless scale-up and transfer of technology.
  • Apply project management skills to plan, budget, and execute projects, allocating resources effectively and managing risks.
  • Generate intellectual property through patents, publications, and internal reports, contributing to the company's innovation pipeline.
  • Support the creation of product brochures, marketing communications, and technical training materials.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and EHS teams to ensure compliance and excellence in high-temperature processing of quartz and quartz-containing materials.
  • Apply Six Sigma methodology and statistical tools for process improvement, failure analysis, and troubleshooting.
Requirements:
  • PhD in Materials Science and Engineering or Glass Science.
  • 5+ years of industry experience in high-temperature processing of quartz, glass, or ceramics.
  • Expertise in working with and designing high-temperature processing equipment.
  • Proficiency in statistical design and analysis of experimental data.
  • Project management experience, with a proven track record of delivering new product/process technologies on time and within budget.
  • Ability to collaborate with manufacturing, supplier, and customer teams to achieve project objectives.
  • Strong sense of accountability, urgency, and self-direction.
  • Management experience, with a willingness to share responsibility for managing a team of technology technicians.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with quartz fusion processes, including electric fusion, arc fusion, and flame fusion.
  • Understanding and experience with analytical tools for measuring ambient and high-temperature properties of fused silica and ceramics.
  • Experience designing products for semiconductor processing equipment and familiarity with the semiconductor tool market.
  • Six Sigma training and/or certifications.
