Role Overview
Property Claims Adjusters are responsible for investigating commercial property claims, assessing damages, determining coverage, and establishing accurate loss cost estimates. They manage the insured's exposures and losses, oversee consultants, and work towards achieving prompt, fair, and equitable settlements in accordance with fair claims handling standards. They negotiate settlements for claims of varying complexity and perils.

Training is essential for your success, and it begins with consistent attendance. Active participation during training is mandatory.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough and fair investigations by gathering relevant facts to determine coverage, origin, and extent of loss. Analyze financial statements to adjust moderately sized business interruption claims.
  • Perform on-site appraisals or direct independent adjusters to ascertain facts related to causation, damages, and exposure.
  • Engage and manage consultants and independent adjusters as necessary, ensuring costs are reasonable and justified.
  • Establish and maintain accurate loss cost estimates and reserves for each claim for reporting and financial documentation.
  • Keep the insured and other stakeholders informed about the claim's status through clear, timely, and accurate written and oral communications. Effectively address moderately complex coverage issues with minimal oversight.
  • Affirm or deny coverage based on facts and policy terms, and develop necessary information for advance, partial, and final payments when applicable.
  • Adhere to time requirements set forth in the policy and fair claims handling practices.
  • Negotiate settlements for claims of varying complexity and perils, ensuring prompt, fair, and equitable resolutions where policy liability exists.
  • Maintain electronic claim files with accurate, clear, and timely documentation that reflects adjustment activities and substantiates payments made.
  • Participate in quality assurance file review sessions and serve as a technical resource for less experienced claims personnel.
  • Be available for catastrophe duty as required.
Qualifications
Proficient knowledge of property insurance, commercial property claims, coverage evaluation, claims investigation, loss assessment, evaluation and reserves, financial analysis, insurance regulations, and negotiation of moderate complexity claims. Skills in customer focus, decision-making, results orientation, effective communication, and adaptability are essential. Ability to build relationships, mentor and train less experienced team members, listen actively, write business correspondence, produce accurate work, manage projects, oversee vendors, and utilize core applications/spreadsheets as typically acquired through a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Successful completion of required internal training programs and AIC (Associate in Claims) module 33, along with at least 18 months of progressively responsible experience, is required.

Willingness and ability to travel to catastrophe sites for assignments that may extend over several weeks.
