Position Overview:

This position will support the Healthcare Underwriting Team by serving as a resource for all policies and endorsements, market trends, and claims feedback. The Aspen Values are expected to be reflected in the performance and delivery of every role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee healthcare claims across various jurisdictions.
  • Timely and accurately analyze and address coverage issues. Draft coverage position letters.
  • Conduct thorough investigations to develop the facts of a claim, ensuring accurate documentation and prompt communication with all relevant parties.
  • Assess complex damages and liability exposures to establish accurate and timely reserves.
  • Manage the litigation process and associated expenses effectively.
  • Proactively oversee a claim inventory and negotiate cases to achieve acceptable resolutions under moderate supervision.
  • Present cases and share expertise during claim committee meetings and customer claim reviews, as necessary.
  • Identify potential fraud and third-party contribution issues and address them appropriately.
  • Comply with all statutory regulations and Unfair Claims Practices Acts.
  • Act as a liaison between Aspen and brokers to maintain loss expense reserves reflective of the company's exposure.
  • Identify exposures to the company and inform senior management of pending claims and litigation that may pose significant risks to Aspen's insureds.
  • Advocate for and embody the Aspen Spirit.
  • Engage in relevant professional, technical, and career development training, including obtaining necessary qualifications.
  • Ensure that company, market, and client-related documentation is issued accurately and promptly.
  • Function as an effective team member by supporting colleagues and contributing to the overall achievement of team and business objectives.
  • Collaborate with associated areas and groups within the business process to foster effective business relationships and organizational efficiency.
  • Perform any other duties of a similar nature as reasonably requested by the company, within the expertise and skills of the jobholder.
  • Partner with underwriting colleagues by attending industry-related meetings when requested.
  • Speak at industry events when invited.

Qualifications:

  • J.D. degree is highly preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant claims and/or law firm experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of legislation, regulations, industry standards, and best practices related to insurance and financial services.
  • Significant experience in healthcare professional liability claims.
  • Prior experience in Professional Liability Claims and/or law firm experience defending professionals is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of the insurance industry, particularly in the P&C sector.
  • Relevant professional qualifications in compliance, investments, law, business, or equivalent.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for conveying compliance and regulatory issues to key stakeholders.
  • Preferred knowledge of other professional claims, including those related to lawyers and accountants, as part of the role will involve managing those claims as well.
  • Able to work independently, managing multiple deadlines and tasks efficiently with minimal direction.
