Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Property Claims Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for handling commercial property and engineering/construction claims, as well as assisting in other lines of business.
Key Responsibilities
- Claims Handling
- Investigate, evaluate, negotiate, and resolve commercial property and engineering claims with the assistance of independent adjusters and experts in the field.
- Independently resolve claims on reasonable terms and at proper values.
- Effectively control the use, costs, and work product of independent adjusters and experts.
- Policy Analysis
- Analyze policy coverages on standard and manuscript forms, independently identifying and evaluating coverage issues.
- Subrogation and Recovery
- Identify subrogation recovery opportunities.
- Reporting and Communication
- Prepare timely and accurate reports for management on large losses.
- Keep management informed of issues, problems, and progress on severe claims.
- Customer Service
- Provide outstanding service and availability to business partners, developing relationships with our insureds, brokers, and HDI colleagues; domestically and abroad.
- Knowledge Sharing
- Share claims lessons learned with other HDI departments.
- Serve as a technical resource when necessary.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in direct handling of commercial property and/or engineering claims.
- Proficient in claims handling, coverage, correspondence, and negotiations.
- Appropriate state adjuster licenses preferred along with willingness to pursue additional licensing.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, customer service, and negotiation skills.
- Strong contract interpretation skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Knowledge of direct and/or reinsurance business.
- Extensive experience working with computers and the Microsoft office suite.
