As a Senior Manager of Application Security within the application security division, you will play a pivotal role in designing, validating, and guiding secure solutions for various IT projects at Capital Group. You will operate in a highly technical and multifaceted environment. A robust understanding of information security tools, threat modeling, risk assessments, software security design principles, software development lifecycle, operating systems such as Linux and Windows, computer networks, enterprise security tools, and security concepts (Authentication, Authorization, etc.) is essential for success in this position. The selected candidate will collaborate with system architects, network architects, software developers, system engineers, cybersecurity engineers, systems administrators, IT managers, and senior management. You will be responsible for leading a team of junior engineers and interns, enhancing their skills, providing technical guidance, and mentoring associates.

  • You will draft and maintain a CI/CD security strategy in collaboration with other technical leaders.
  • You will act as a point of contact for security-related escalations and remain actively involved until resolution.
  • You will design and assist in building services and tools that enable developers and engineers to seamlessly utilize security components produced by the application security team.
  • You will guide engineers in creating automation that enhances the security of software developed using CI/CD pipeline tools.
  • You will support the initiative to "shift left" and incorporate security early and throughout the development lifecycle.
  • You will identify vulnerabilities in code through both automated and manual assessments and advocate for prompt remediation.
  • You will communicate vulnerability findings in a manner comprehensible to both technical and non-technical business units, based on risk tolerance and potential threats to the business, gaining support through persuasive messaging.
  • You will provide insights on risks and remediation to assist teams in architecting efficiently within cloud environments and operating SaaS services securely.
  • You will promote technology collaboration by applying security principles in architecture, infrastructure, and code.
  • You will regularly research and learn new tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) in various forums, collaborating with colleagues to assess risk and design appropriate controls as necessary.
  • You will partner with teams to define key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics across business units.
  • You will mentor and guide other security engineers and managers.

  • You possess a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field and/or have at least 12+ years of experience in information security, application security, penetration testing, DevSecOps, network security, and other security disciplines.
  • You have experience managing engineering teams (5+ years), preferably leading multiple teams through other managers.
  • You are passionate about management, leadership, and management science.
  • You have experience with threat modeling frameworks and agile workflows, including Scrum and Kanban.
  • You have a solid understanding of containers (e.g., Docker) and container orchestration (e.g., Docker Swarm, Kubernetes).
  • You have a strong grasp of cloud-native architectures, including API Gateways, ELB, ECS, Lambda/Azure Functions, Terraform, Ansible, and CI/CD Pipelines.
  • You are proficient in securing Windows and *nix operating systems, endpoint detection and response tools, and networking protocols and devices.
  • You have the ability to collaboratively drive business initiatives to reduce attack surfaces while implementing rapid, continuous improvements.
  • You are skilled in designing, building, and deploying complex engineering solutions.
  • You have expertise in programming languages such as Java, Python, JavaScript, and scripting in Bash and/or PowerShell.
