In the role of Senior Manager of Application Security, you will be an integral part of the application security division, responsible for architecting, validating, and guiding secure solutions for various IT projects within Capital Group. This position requires a robust technical background in a multifaceted environment. A deep understanding of information security instruments, threat modeling, risk evaluations, software security design principles, and the software development lifecycle is essential. Familiarity with operating systems such as Linux and Windows, computer networking, enterprise security solutions, and core security concepts (like Authentication and Authorization) is also crucial.

Your collaboration will extend to system architects, network architects, software developers, system engineers, cybersecurity professionals, systems administrators, IT managers, and senior executives. You will lead a team of junior engineers and interns, enhancing their skills, providing technical guidance, and mentoring them effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct threat modeling for diverse systems and collaboratively establish security requirements with developers, architects, and business stakeholders.
  • Communicate risks thoughtfully, supported by data, to ensure clarity and understanding.
  • Drive the organization's security direction while aligning with business goals.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and skill-sharing to promote team excellence.
  • Build strong relationships with developers, stakeholders, and scrum masters to integrate security principles into engineering designs and deployments.
  • Oversee testing and validation of application security controls across various projects.
  • Manage the implementation of defensive strategies and countermeasures across applications and infrastructure.
  • Develop and maintain a CI/CD security strategy in collaboration with other technical leaders.
  • Act as a primary contact for security-related escalations, remaining actively involved until resolution.
  • Design and assist in creating services and tools that enable developers and engineers to effectively utilize security components produced by the application security team.
  • Guide engineers in automating processes that enhance the security of software developed through CI/CD pipeline tools.
  • Support the initiative to "shift left" by incorporating security early in the development lifecycle.
  • Identify vulnerabilities in code through both automated and manual assessments, promoting swift remediation.
  • Present vulnerability findings in a manner that is comprehensible to both technical and non-technical business units, gaining support through effective communication.
  • Provide insights on risks and remediation strategies to assist teams in architecting securely within cloud environments.
  • Encourage technology collaboration by applying security principles in architecture, infrastructure, and code.
  • Engage in ongoing research to stay updated on new tactics, techniques, and procedures, collaborating with colleagues to assess risks and design appropriate controls.
  • Partner with teams to define key performance indicators and metrics across business units.
  • Mentor and guide other security engineers and managers.

"I am the candidate Capital Group seeks."

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, along with a minimum of 12 years of experience in information security, application security, penetration testing, DevSecOps, and network security.
  • Proven experience in managing engineering teams for over 5 years, ideally with a background in leading multiple teams through other managers.
  • A strong passion for management, leadership, and management science.
  • Familiarity with threat modeling frameworks such as STRIDE, and agile methodologies including Scrum and Kanban.
  • Understanding of container technologies and orchestration tools.
  • In-depth knowledge of cloud-native architectures and associated tools.
  • Proficiency in securing various operating systems and understanding networking protocols.
  • Ability to collaboratively drive business initiatives to minimize attack surfaces while implementing solutions rapidly.
  • Expertise in designing, building, and deploying complex engineering solutions.
  • Proficient in programming languages such as Java, Python, JavaScript, and scripting languages like Bash and PowerShell.
