In the role of Senior Manager of Application Security, you will be an integral part of the application security division, responsible for architecting, validating, and guiding secure solutions for various IT projects within Capital Group. This position requires a robust technical background in a diverse and dynamic environment. A comprehensive understanding of information security tools, threat modeling, risk evaluations, software security design principles, and the software development lifecycle is essential. Familiarity with operating systems like Linux and Windows, computer networks, enterprise security tools, and security concepts such as Authentication and Authorization will be crucial for your success.

You will collaborate closely with system architects, network architects, software developers, system engineers, cybersecurity professionals, systems administrators, IT managers, and senior management. Your responsibilities will include leading a team of junior engineers and interns, enhancing their skills, providing technical guidance, and mentoring team members.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct threat modeling for various systems and collaboratively design security requirements with developers, architects, and business stakeholders.
  • Communicate risks in a clear and balanced manner, supported by data.
  • Drive the organization towards security while aligning with business objectives.
  • Continuously learn and share advanced skills to foster team excellence.
  • Build strong relationships with developers, stakeholders, and scrum masters to integrate security principles into engineering designs and deployments.
  • Oversee testing and validation of application security controls across projects.
  • Manage the implementation of defensive practices and countermeasures across infrastructure and applications.
  • Develop and maintain CI/CD security strategies in collaboration with other technical leaders.
  • Act as a point of contact for security-related escalations and remain actively involved until resolution.
  • Design and assist in building services and tools that enable developers and engineers to utilize security components effectively.
  • Guide engineers in creating automation that enhances the security of software developed using CI/CD pipeline tools.
  • Support the initiative to "shift left" by incorporating security early in the development lifecycle.
  • Identify vulnerabilities in code through both automated and manual assessments, promoting swift remediation.
  • Communicate vulnerability findings in a manner comprehensible to both technical and non-technical business units, gaining support through persuasive messaging.
  • Provide insights on risks and remediation to assist teams in architecting securely within cloud environments.
  • Foster technology collaboration by applying security principles in architecture, infrastructure, and code.
  • Regularly research and learn new tactics, techniques, and procedures, collaborating with colleagues to assess risks and design appropriate controls.
  • Partner with teams to define key performance indicators and metrics across business units.
  • Mentor and guide other security engineers and managers.

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, along with at least 12 years of experience in information security, application security, penetration testing, DevSecOps, and network security.
  • Proven experience managing engineering teams for over 5 years, preferably leading multiple teams through other managers.
  • A strong passion for management, leadership, and management science.
  • Familiarity with threat modeling frameworks and agile methodologies, including Scrum and Kanban.
  • Understanding of container technologies and orchestration.
  • In-depth knowledge of cloud-native architectures and security tools.
  • Proficiency in securing various operating systems and understanding networking protocols.
  • Ability to collaboratively drive business initiatives to minimize attack surfaces while ensuring rapid implementation.
  • Expertise in designing, building, and deploying complex engineering solutions.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, and JavaScript, as well as scripting languages like Bash and PowerShell.
