Position Overview:

Job Summary

The Telecommunications Structural Engineer will hold EI or EIT Certification and collaborate with the Engineer of Record on various telecom infrastructure projects. The individual will possess a solid understanding of standard building construction types and be knowledgeable about practical methods used to analyze, design, and modify a range of structures. The candidate will leverage their expertise in wireless equipment, including antennas and fiber optics, along with experience in structural analysis and design of towers and mounts to effectively contribute to assigned projects. Adherence to customer specifications and documentation of job details will be essential.

Remote Work Consideration: While the preferred location is flexible, candidates from the Southeast may be considered for remote work opportunities.

This role demands excellent communication skills, the capacity to manage multiple fast-paced projects, and a willingness to share knowledge and expertise with fellow engineers, drafters, and non-engineering personnel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct detailed structural analysis of original, modified, and proposed telecommunication towers, including monopole, guyed, and lattice self-supporting structures.
  • Perform structural assessments of original tower mounts and devise modifications for underperforming mounts.
  • Review the work of Associate and Design Engineers in producing reports and supporting calculations for review and approval by a licensed professional engineer.
  • Execute quality assurance evaluations of third-party work as part of Vendor QA and assess performance.
  • Analyze insufficient assessments to minimize modification costs.
  • Develop analytical tools and training presentations, and facilitate training sessions.
  • Lead small to moderate-sized projects.
  • Contribute as an engineer Subject Matter Expert (SME) on larger projects.
  • Identify the causes of overstresses in tower members and strategize practical, cost-effective reinforcement or modification systems.
  • Specify reinforcement systems and components to address tower overstresses and customer requirements, producing well-documented calculations.
  • Create conceptual sketches for tower and foundation reinforcement/modification for the Structural Detailer to translate into design, fabrication, and erection drawings (CAD).
  • Review and approve AutoCAD drawings for tower and foundation reinforcement/modification designs.
  • Participate in the development of engineering processes, standards, and tools/programs.
  • May serve as Project Engineer and designated client contact on smaller, less complex projects.
  • Coordinate efforts with other disciplines, including architectural, mechanical, and electrical teams.
  • Manage routine contract administration.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering.
  • EI or EIT Certification is essential; PE or SE in civil structural engineering is desirable.
  • 2-5 years of experience in the Wireless/Telecom industry with proven expertise in structural analysis and design of towers and mounts is required.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and construction design and drawing preparation (structural analysis of towers and mounts) is preferred.
  • Understanding of antennas, fiber optics, carrier services, and other wireless equipment is necessary.
  • Knowledge of TNX Tower, Enercalc, PLS Caisson, and Risa 3D Programs is advantageous.
  • Flexible work schedule is available.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, if necessary.
  • Exceptional communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with a strong desire to learn and retain knowledge.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in teams and independently.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills.
  • Willingness to travel within local markets with no travel restrictions within the United States (approximately 15% travel, typically 1-2 day trips).
