Job Overview

The Registered Nurse in the Emergency Services department is responsible for delivering both direct and indirect patient care. This role requires the application of the nursing process to effectively plan and execute patient care, which includes educating patients and their families, as well as planning for continuity of care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Delivering nursing care tailored to the specific conditions and requirements of patients.
  • Collaborating with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care.
  • Establishing, reviewing, and updating patient care plans as necessary.
  • Administering medications and treatments in accordance with the Registered Nurse's scope of practice.
  • Documenting patient care activities, including assessments and ongoing treatment notes, in the patients' medical records.
  • Utilizing various computer systems effectively.
  • Operating medical equipment essential for patient care.
  • Providing education to patients and families regarding treatment plans, diagnoses, medications, discharge procedures, and self-care strategies.
  • Ensuring patient care adheres to nursing standards that promote optimal outcomes, minimize harm, and support health and recovery.
  • Demonstrating the ability to follow established Standards of Performance.
  • Communicating effectively in English.
  • Exhibiting the capacity to work under pressure, adapt to changing situations, function both dependently and independently, and apply fundamental nursing knowledge flexibly across various settings.

Organizational Expectations

Engagement in safety initiatives such as Briefs, Debriefs, Huddles, Learning Board Activities, and Executive Patient Safety Rounds is essential. Reporting of unexpected patient events is expected, regardless of the presence of harm.

Additionally, the role includes:

  • Providing effective mentorship.
  • Demonstrating loyalty to absent colleagues.
  • Consistently applying AIDET and the 5 P's.
  • Upholding the facility's Standards of Performance.

Qualifications

Minimum Education
Possession of an active RN license in Tennessee or a compact state license with the intention to secure a Tennessee RN license.

Required Skills
Current BLS certification is required within a specified timeframe. Additionally, ACLS and PALS certifications must be obtained within a designated period, along with HWC certification within six months of hire.
