The Registered Nurse in the OB Department at Southern Tennessee Regional Health System - Pulaski provides direct and indirect patient care, applying the nursing process to plan and implement care for patients, including patient and family education and continuum of care planning.
This role requires effective communication skills to collaborate with physicians, peers, patients, and families, working collaboratively with all members of the healthcare team to ensure quality care is delivered.
Key Responsibilities- Providing nursing care appropriate to the condition and needs of the patient.
- Consulting and collaborating with physicians and other healthcare professionals to provide care to patients.
- Establishing, reviewing, revising, and following the patient plan of care.
- Administering medications and treatments within the scope of practice for a Registered Nurse.
- Recording patient care activities, including assessment, reassessment, and ongoing treatment notes, within the patient's medical record.
- Using a variety of computer systems.
- Operating medical equipment used in the care of the patient.
- Providing patient and family education related to treatment, diagnosis, medications, discharge, and self-care.
- Providing patient care following nursing standards of care in a manner that promotes excellent outcomes, avoids harm to patients, and promotes health and healing.
- The ability and willingness to follow established Standards of Performance.
- Must be able to read and communicate effectively in English.
- Must possess the ability to work under pressure, to adapt quickly in changing situations, to function dependently and independently, and to be flexible in applying basic nursing knowledge to a variety of settings.
- Actively participates in Foundation Safety Behavior Tools and Tactics, such as Briefs, Debriefs, Huddles, Learning Board Activities, Executive Patient Safety Rounds, and reporting of unanticipated and unintended patient events regardless of whether there is harm.
- Provide effective mentoring.
- Be loyal to the absent.
- Always manage up.
- Consistent use of AIDET & 5 P's.
- Uphold the facilities Standards of Performance.
- Must possess an active TN RN license or a compact state license with the intent to obtain a TN RN license within 30 days of hire.
- BLS current or within 90 days of hire date.
- AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Course at time of hire or obtain certification within 30 days of hire.
- S.T.A.B.L.E. current or within 6 months of hire.
- ACLS current or within 90 days of hire date.
- NRP current or within 90 days of hire date.
