Job Description

General Overview:

The Senior Vice President, Corporate Strategy will spearhead the strategic planning initiatives and analytical efforts aimed at expanding the Cox Automotive business portfolio and enhancing the value of its various enterprises and brands.

In particular, this role will: 1) oversee the strategic planning and management of the business portfolio for Cox Automotive, 2) identify investment opportunities and potential exits for new growth, 3) collaborate with and lead strategic support across operational divisions, and 4) facilitate the formulation, communication, and execution of Cox Automotive's overarching corporate strategy.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Serve as a vital member of the executive leadership team, providing thought leadership for the Cox Automotive executive group.
  • Direct and manage the Cox Automotive strategy team, implementing and refining strategic processes
    • Lead initiatives to define and prioritize key strategic projects within Cox Automotive to mitigate risks and seize opportunities beyond the current financial outlook.
    • Establish and maintain strategic focus areas to drive sustainable growth.
    • Engage with emerging companies to cultivate a pipeline of Corporate Development opportunities aligned with the overall strategy.
    • Define and oversee long-term portfolio objectives and annual strategic priorities, translating them into actionable business plans.
  • Facilitate brainstorming sessions with key leadership and operational teams to explore avenues for business growth
    • Identify and initiate adjacent growth opportunities in both existing and new markets.
    • Lead assessments of new and evolving strategic business opportunities and conduct regular performance reviews against established goals.
    • Provide additional analytical support as needed to evaluate and measure key strategic initiatives and the overall growth strategy for Cox Automotive.
  • Oversee the creation and development of the integrated business planning team
    • Enhance collaboration, communication, and standardization of the business planning process to better align with the overall strategy of Cox Automotive.
    • Establish a regular meeting schedule and work routines for the extended team.
    • Lead and facilitate group meetings and planning sessions, including those with financial planning and analysis and Corporate Development partners.
    • Identify ongoing support needs and expectations from each group president/operations lead to design and plan resource allocation.
  • Lead the development and maintenance of internal and external data resources
    • In collaboration with Economic/Industry Analysis and Market & Competitive Intelligence teams, maintain and leverage industry knowledge to make strategic recommendations or identify risks and opportunities for current business plans.
    • Quantify the impacts of external trends and internal performance on long-term business strategies.
  • Provide analytical support for new initiatives as directed by senior leadership and ensure alignment of vision and planning between Cox Automotive and Cox Enterprises.
  • Assist in the integration of newly acquired businesses as necessary.
Required Qualifications:
  • Experience: 15+ years of professional experience, primarily in strategic planning or business development roles, with at least 8 years in a corporate environment, including leadership and management experience.
  • Knowledge: Familiarity with strategic planning processes, market research, and financial analysis methodologies.
  • Skills: Strong financial, analytical, research, and project management capabilities. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including facilitation of meetings.
  • Abilities:
    • Proven executive-level stakeholder who is forward-thinking, innovative, collaborative, influential, courageous, committed, and attentive.
    • Ability to establish credibility as an internal thought leader on strategic, business, and financial matters and engage leadership at all organizational levels.
    • Ability to interpret complex data and distill it into concise, relevant documents and presentations for an executive audience.
    • Ability to think strategically and abstractly, applying broad concepts to actionable plans and measurable business impacts.
    • Skilled storyteller adept at simplifying complex concepts into compelling presentations.
    • Demonstrated success in leading and developing a high-performing, highly engaged team with a proactive approach.
  • Willingness to travel as required (estimated at 15%).
Education Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • MBA and/or relevant certifications strongly preferred.
