Research Opportunities in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery

Virginia Commonwealth University's Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery is expanding its research lab to explore the frontiers of skin biology, skin conditions, burn physiology, and the regeneration of skin and soft tissues.

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled postdoctoral scholar to join our dynamic team and contribute to ongoing research initiatives in the field of plastic and reconstructive surgery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support laboratory work to advance research goals, including cellular models, sequencing patient and animal samples, and analyzing therapeutic compounds.
  • Conduct small and large animal experiments under appropriate guidance to further basic science and therapeutic developments.
  • Collaborate with plastic surgery faculty members on all aspects of research, from project development to executing experiments and ensuring the smooth functioning of the laboratory.
  • Draft grant proposals under faculty guidance to foster the development of independent research skills and collaboration across various disciplines and faculties.
Requirements
  • PhD in a related field
  • Experience working with animals (rodents and swine)
  • Experience with cellular models, processing samples, sequencing, animal models, heart function, and muscle physiology
  • Experience in wet lab techniques (histological and molecular analysis)
  • Ability to independently manage multiple projects
  • Basic understanding of and proficiency with biostatistics
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in biomedical engineering and/or with the design of medical devices
