Cardiothoracic Surgery Division Head, Department of Surgery

The Department of Surgery at Virginia Commonwealth University and VCU Health System is seeking a highly qualified individual to serve as the Division Chair for Cardiothoracic Surgery. This is a key leadership position within the department and Pauley Heart Center, responsible for overseeing the division's clinical, educational, and research activities.
Key Responsibilities- Administrative: Manage the division's administrative functions, including budgeting, personnel management, and strategic planning.
- Clinical: Provide clinical leadership and expertise in cardiothoracic surgery, including patient care, surgical procedures, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Teaching: Develop and implement educational programs for cardiothoracic surgery fellows, general surgery residents, and medical students.
- Research: Establish and lead research initiatives in cardiothoracic surgery, including clinical trials, outcomes research, and translational research.
- Service: Serve on departmental, college, and university committees, as well as in professional organizations and societies.
- Board certification or eligibility in thoracic surgery
- Virginia state licensure and DEA registration
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work in a complex, matrixed environment
- Effective conflict management skills
- Commitment to clinical excellence, education, and research
- Knowledge of thoracic transplantation and experience with clinical programs
- Ability to develop and grow clinical programs and be active clinically
- Comfortable with development and philanthropic activities
- Demonstrated experience working in a diverse environment and commitment to fostering diversity
