Research Opportunities in Neurodegenerative Diseases

The Lulu Jiang Lab at the University of Virginia is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Lab Specialist Intermediate to join our research team. As a key member of our team, you will contribute to the advancement of our understanding of neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and other related dementia disorders.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct experiments and data analysis related to ongoing research projects.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of research protocols.
  • Collaborate with fellow researchers and scientists within and outside the lab.
  • Present research findings at conferences and publish in scientific journals.
  • Assist in the training and mentorship of junior lab members.
Research Focus:

Our lab is dedicated to advancing our understanding of the intricate workings of the brain. We employ cutting-edge technologies in disease modeling, allowing us to recreate and study the pathological processes in a controlled environment. Our research focuses on several key areas, including:

  • Investigation of RNA modifications and epitranscriptomic mechanisms in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias.
  • Exploration of neuron-glia interactions and neuroimmunological mechanisms underlying the progression of AD and PD.
  • Utilization of iPSC-induced 3D human brain organoid models to study neurodegenerative diseases and enable precision medicine approaches.
  • Elucidation of the molecular mechanisms driving prion-like propagation in the Braak stages of AD.
  • Development of innovative genetic and small molecule therapeutics for neurodegenerative diseases.
Requirements:

To be considered for this position, you should have:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Neuroscience, Biology, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Strong background in neuroscience research techniques and methodologies.
  • Experience with data analysis software (e.g., MATLAB, R).
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

This is an Exempt level, benefited position. For more information on the benefits at UVA, visit www.hr.virginia.edu/benefits.
