Position Overview:

Yorktown Systems Group is in search of a qualified Senior Language Authority (SLA) / Chief Language Regional Engagement Capability (LREC) Officer to provide essential support to the U.S. Southern Command (USSOUTHCOM) in its Southern Command Operations Planning and Engagement Support (SCOPES).

USSOUTHCOM is tasked with executing contingency planning, operations, and security cooperation within its designated Area of Responsibility (AOR), which encompasses Central America, South America, and the Caribbean Sea.

For over five decades, USSOUTHCOM has been dedicated to fostering regional and interagency partnerships to ensure the ongoing stability of the Western Hemisphere and the proactive defense of the U.S. homeland.

The mission of USSOUTHCOM is to deter aggression, neutralize threats, swiftly respond to crises, and enhance regional capacity by collaborating with partner nations and mission partners to bolster security and protect U.S. homeland and national interests.

USSOUTHCOM is responsible for executing contingency planning, operations, and security cooperation in its AOR to comprehend and counter threats posed by transnational criminal organizations, violent extremist groups, and hostile regional and external state actors.

Objectives of SCOPES:
To provide integrated services that promote, facilitate, and enhance USSOUTHCOM capabilities to align with the Commander's priorities. USSOUTHCOM aims to leverage this Task Order to strengthen relationships with allies and mission partners, thereby reducing response times to security threats, humanitarian crises, and natural disasters.

Key Responsibilities:
- Support the Senior Language Authority.
- Oversee the design and implementation of language and cultural education initiatives, ensuring military personnel acquire the necessary skills to effectively engage in diverse environments.
- Assess language and cultural proficiency requirements, collaborate with various military and educational institutions, and integrate these capabilities into operational planning and execution.
- Enhance military operations through expertise in languages, cultural awareness, and regional knowledge.
- Supervise the quality of translated written materials and real-time verbal interpretation during exercises and training, ensuring clear communication that simulates local populations and authorities.
- Ensure cultural briefings and training sessions educate military personnel on regional customs and sensitivities, and provide advisory support on cultural issues that may impact missions.
- Assist in gathering and analyzing intelligence related to specific regions, offering strategic insights to inform mission exercises.
- May serve as Site Lead.

Qualifications:
- A minimum of 10-15 years of experience in Department of Defense (DoD) Language programs and familiarity with DoD Instructions, including Service level Orders related to LREC.
- Experience in gathering LREC requirements and conducting needs analysis to support the design and execution of meaningful and sustainable language and cultural education programs aligned with mission objectives.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills to advise leaders on the impact of military operations on the Areas of Operations (AOs) through expertise in languages, cultural awareness, and regional knowledge.
- Experience in the vetting and management of programs requiring translation and interpretation of both written and verbal materials.
- Support and validate cultural briefings relevant to the target audience.
- Assist in gathering and analyzing intelligence related to specific regions, providing strategic insights to inform mission exercises.
- Demonstrated ability to plan and execute long-term strategic goals and objectives.
- Proven analytical skills to evaluate complex data, resolve inconsistencies, and propose innovative solutions to challenging problems.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Possess a Master's degree or equivalent experience.

Clearance:
Requires a Top Secret/SCI clearance.

Travel Requirements:
CONUS and OCONUS travel may be necessary to support mission requirements, including locations outside of the SOUTHCOM AOR and AOI, SOUTHCOM Units, and Partner Nations.
