Job Summary

Hamilton Health Center Inc. is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Medical Referral Clerk to join our team. As a Medical Referral Clerk, you will be responsible for coordinating patient referrals, communicating with insurance companies, and maintaining accurate records.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contact insurance companies to confirm DME benefits within 3 business days of receiving DME check
  • Use most efficient manner available to obtain DME benefits: phone or portal
  • Communicate with patient regarding coverage and patient responsibility
  • Document in the EMR all contact regarding DME
  • Maintain internal document for DME Check form
  • Electronically communicate patient information to insurance companies
  • Schedule patients for a DME item within the EMR
  • Reviewing the DME schedule for all proper documents, authorizations and DME checks
  • Explaining to the MA/PA and the physician why information is needed to complete any of the above
  • Check Medicare Portal for Same/Similar
  • Knowledgeable regarding benefit details from Insurance companies
  • Knowledgeable and/or willing to learn the rules and regulations for paperwork and dispensing DME in a timely manner
  • Checking chart notes for other billable diagnosis codes
  • Obtain authorizations for all DME, if needed
  • Maintain Excel DME tracking sheet
  • Collaborate with Providers to ensure excellent patient care
Requirements
  • Healthcare Knowledge: A fundamental understanding of healthcare services and basic medical terminology.
  • Tech-Savvy: Proficiency in basic data entry computer skills.
  • Strong Interpersonal Skills: Ability to communicate courteously and effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Team Player: An industrious and cooperative nature to foster harmonious working relationships with clinic management, physicians, clinicians, and the public.
  • High School Diploma: High school diploma is necessary or an equivalent
Preferred Qualifications
  • Completion of an accredited medical assistance program
  • Prior CPR/First Aid certification
  • One (1) year of working experience in medical or physician office setting.
  • Knowledge of The Joint Commission regulations
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish, Nepali, French
