Position Overview
The Peer Recovery Specialist serves as a mentor to members, showcasing expertise in personal recovery and effective coping strategies. This role acts as a consumer advocate, delivering essential information and peer support to individuals. The specialist engages, motivates, and inspires members to actively participate in their recovery journey, regain independence within their communities, and promote overall wellness. Building connections with community support services is a key responsibility of this position, which may also involve travel.
Qualifications
Education
A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
Licensing/Certification
Must possess one of the three Peer Support Certifications (PR, APR, PRPS) through the Arkansas Peer Specialist Program at the time of application and maintain this certification throughout employment.
A valid, unrestricted driver's license is required to facilitate travel across the state.
Experience
A minimum of six (6) months' experience at or above the core certification level (Core, Advanced, or Supervisor) is necessary.
Proficiency in computer use and basic Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel) is essential.
Understanding of the recovery process and the ability to facilitate recovery using established mental health practices is crucial.
Knowledge of the signs and symptoms of mental health issues and substance use disorders is required.
Familiarity with community resources essential for independent living and the ability to impart these skills to individuals with substance use disorders is necessary.
Ability to access and utilize recovery support and educational groups is important.
Essential Skills & Abilities
Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Capability to teach and engage in basic problem-solving strategies to support individual members in self-directed recovery.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as an educational resource on substance use disorders and recovery.
- Assist members in collaborating with their case managers or treatment teams to determine necessary steps for achieving personal goals and self-directed recovery.
- Support members living outside their immediate communities in identifying and utilizing local Peer Recovery resources.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams as an advocate for members during discharge planning, addressing barriers, and facilitating service transitions.
- Empower members by developing life skills and combating stigma through advocacy and recovery efforts.
- Serve as a role model and advocate for members with substance use disorders, demonstrating effective coping techniques and self-help strategies.
- Identify opportunities for engaging members in forming supportive peer recovery networks and assist them in locating and joining local recovery support groups.
- Initiate and maintain contact with assigned members to assess their engagement and response to services.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Provide treatment and recovery resources, alongside peer support services for members, acting as a recovery agent to advocate for recovery-based services that assist members in daily living.
- Utilize tools to aid members in creating their wellness and recovery plans.

It is essential to ensure the security and confidentiality of records and information to prevent substantial harm, embarrassment, inconvenience, or unfairness to any individual whose information is maintained. The integrity of information must be upheld as outlined in the company Administrative Manual.

Segregation of duties will be employed to ensure that errors or irregularities are prevented or detected promptly by employees in the normal course of business. This position must adhere to the segregation of duties guidelines in the Administrative Manual.
