Job Description

Job Summary:

The Operations Supervisor is a key member of the DSV team, responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the distribution center. This includes supervising warehouse associates, managing labor scheduling, and ensuring the efficient movement of products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct daily staff meetings to review work activities and plan for continuous improvement.
  • Communicate effectively with senior management and client representatives to ensure seamless operations.
  • Develop and implement systems and procedures to manage operations, equipment, and products in a safe and profitable manner.
  • Meet productivity and service goals, and comply with client agreements.
  • Implement cost-saving measures and provide ideas for more efficient operations.
  • Meet client-specified KPIs and comply with quality system requirements.
  • Manage the operations to achieve prescribed objectives, applying sound communication and motivational techniques.
  • Provide direction and support to the Human Resources team, and assist in creating programs for hiring, training, and professional development.
  • Train new staff in assigned duties, and assess their progress.
  • Keep informed of quantity and quality of jobs being performed, and provide guidance and advice as necessary.
  • Assign supervisory duties to experienced team members, and keep abreast of their progress.
  • Keep the Manager informed of progress or problems requiring attention, and hold regular meetings with warehouse staff to assess their overall status.
  • Assist in the physical operations as needed, and maintain a high degree of motivation in team members to retain focus on providing high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Provide ongoing growth and development opportunities for team members, and conduct annual performance reviews.
  • Support adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and train team members on SOPs.
  • Ensure all team members are properly trained and efficient in required information systems, and remain knowledgeable regarding changes in hardware and software technology.
  • Manage high-level customer service standards, and assure that client accounts receive the required level of operational and administrative support.
  • Participate in planning new account strategies, prospecting for new opportunities, and generating positive word of mouth.
  • Support the development of an annual operating budget, and develop and manage a system of controls to ensure that service levels and operational performance goals are met within prescribed cost, revenue, and profit parameters.
  • Manage existing programs for maintaining company standards of sanitation, maintenance, security, housekeeping, safety, and equipment, including material handling equipment (MHE).
  • Achieve company goals in terms of injury frequency ratings (IFR) and other safety metrics by establishing a proactive and participative safety culture within the operations.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED), and 3 years of experience working in a logistics/distribution/relevant environment.
  • 1 year of experience in a supervisory role, and ability to operate MHE.
  • Satisfactory completion of a forklift training program.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint), RF Scanners, and WMS functions.
  • English language skills (reading, writing, verbal), and business communication skills.
  • Basic to intermediate level mathematical skills to verify quantities of product, count inventory, or perform other duties associated with handling, storing, and distributing client products.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to accomplish job tasks in a timely manner.
  • Good organizational and personnel skills, good communication skills (written and oral), good leadership, supervision, and planning skills.
  • Able to work flexible schedules, including nights and weekends, as required by the operation.
  • Participate in established cross-training metrics activities, and be able to assist as a back-up when needed.
  • Must be able to effectively adapt to change and thrive in a stimulating, fast-paced work environment.
