Job Overview

Breast Cancer Department:

The Registration Clerk is responsible for performing essential clerical tasks to support the operations of the PIH Health Breast Center Whittier. This role is vital in ensuring that patient needs are met efficiently, thereby facilitating optimal care delivery. Exceptional customer service abilities are crucial. Responsibilities may encompass filing, managing imaging records, scheduling appointments, handling phone communications, data entry, collecting patient payments, and assisting with mammography audit-related clerical functions, along with other assigned duties. This position may involve travel to various locations.

Radiation Oncology Department:

This role provides clerical assistance within the Radiation Oncology Department. Responsibilities include ensuring accurate entry of patient information and the proper utilization of patient accounts. It is essential to verify insurance eligibility for all patients and secure necessary authorizations prior to patient visits.

Laboratory Services:

The role includes responsibilities such as patient registration, specimen accessioning, processing, test ordering, clerical tasks, and managing phone communications.

Breast Cancer Department:

Radiation Oncology Department:
  • Typing speed of at least 45 words per minute.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology.
  • Basic computer skills, particularly in Microsoft applications.
  • Understanding of insurance processes and requirements.
  • Strong communication skills, especially over the phone.
  • Ability to interact with patients of all ages.
Laboratory Services:
  • Data entry proficiency.
  • Record-keeping and filing skills.
  • Effective communication and telephone skills.
  • Ability to operate laboratory equipment.
  • Familiarity with laboratory terminology is advantageous.
Experience Requirements

Breast Cancer Department:

Required:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • At least 1 year of experience in healthcare registration, financial counseling, insurance verification, or customer service.
Preferred:
  • Prior experience in a medical setting with electronic medical records.
  • Bilingual abilities (English/Spanish).
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance processes.
Radiation Oncology Department:

Required:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred:
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a medical environment.
  • Completion of a medical terminology course.
  • Bilingual skills (Spanish).
Laboratory Services:
  • Knowledge of general laboratory tests is preferred.
  • Experience with blood specimen processing is advantageous.
  • Six months of data processing or clerical experience is preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • Familiarity with laboratory terminology is beneficial.
