Job Overview

The Healthcare Registration Specialist is responsible for executing all functions related to the pre-registration and registration of both inpatient and outpatient services. This includes efficiently securing and calculating upfront payments, such as co-pays and co-insurance, while ensuring a welcoming and accurate experience for patients, physicians, and hospital staff.

Completion of the comprehensive training program for Hospital Presumptive Eligibility is mandatory to effectively interview and assess uninsured patients. The specialist will evaluate patients according to established protocols to identify potential state programs for which they may qualify, linking them to temporary Medi-Cal coverage and possible full-scope Medi-Cal benefits.

Assisting applicants with the completion of necessary documentation is a key responsibility, which involves compiling records and assessing information to determine eligibility status, including household size.

Maintaining accurate documentation and updates in our database is essential to track the outcomes and successful completion of the application process.

For those in the Emergency Registration Representative role, ongoing enhancement of registration knowledge and financial counseling skills is expected, in alignment with the diverse financial programs available at HELP-Hire Healthcare.


Qualifications
  • Minimum of one year of experience in a high-volume healthcare environment or medical office, with a strong background in customer service and computer skills.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required; evidence of ongoing education is preferred.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology is highly desirable.
  • Experience in insurance and billing processes is essential.
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to travel to off-site locations as needed.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish or Chinese (Mandarin) is preferred.
  • Completion of the HPE comprehensive training program and certification is required.

Essential Skills
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with staff, patients, guarantors, insurance providers, and physicians.
  • Strong attention to detail, along with proficient English speaking, spelling, reading, and mathematical skills.
  • Ability to learn quickly and adhere to directions as outlined in policies or provided by supervisors.
  • Proficient computer skills, including knowledge of Word and Excel, with the ability to navigate multiple screens efficiently.
  • Preferred experience of at least one year in a medical office, hospital, or medical billing environment.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is strongly preferred.
  • Understanding of insurance processes is required.
  • Capability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced and high-pressure setting.
  • Strict adherence to all HIPAA regulations.
  • Strong typing skills, with a minimum of 45 words per minute.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to make informed decisions.
  • Outstanding customer service and telephone skills, particularly within the medical field.
  • Willingness to travel to off-site locations as necessary.
