Job SummaryThe Exercise Specialist develops, implements, and supervises exercise training guidelines and sessions for cardiac rehabilitation patients. This role requires administering fitness assessments on an outpatient population and providing exercise expertise as needed.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement exercise training guidelines and sessions for cardiac rehabilitation patients.
- Administer fitness assessments on an outpatient population.
- Provide exercise expertise as needed.
- Train in ECG and arrhythmia recognition.
- Perform graded exercise tests (GXT) using various modes and protocols.
- Evaluate and interpret expired gas values.
- Conduct pulmonary function tests, including full flow loop and lung volumes.
- Assess body composition using the skinfold method.
- Administer various upper and lower extremity flexibility and strength tests.
- Masters Degree in Exercise Science or related field.
- Basic Life Support Certification from the American Heart Association.
- Extensive clinical experience in managing post-operative and post-myocardial infarction patients.
- Administrative experience in cardiac rehabilitation.
- Thorough knowledge of prevention, intervention, and rehabilitation programs regarding exercise, diet, stress management, and risk factor modification.
- Demonstrated experience in diagnostic exercise testing.
- Demonstrated experience in fitness assessments involving expired gas analysis, body composition assessment, pulmonary function, strength, flexibility, and risk factor profiles.
- Certification as an Exercise Specialist or higher from the American College of Sports Medicine or equivalent.
- ACLS certification.
