Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Pharmacy Technician to join our Clinical Pharmacy team at The Royal Marsden. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care and contributing to the development of our medicines optimisation service.

Main Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain the safe and efficient supply of medicines to patients on day units and inpatient wards.
  • Deliver quality care to patients at ward level through efficient medicines optimisation, including patient assessment, medicines reconciliation, individual patient dispensing, discharge planning, and patient education on medicines.
  • Support clinical audits, data collection, and implementation of developments to enhance patient needs.
  • Support the Lead Pharmacy Technician and Lead Pharmacists Clinical Services with the delivery of service developments associated with medicine management pharmacy services to meet local and national requirements.
  • Participate in the dispensing, final checking, and issuing of medicines to deliver a safe service.
  • Support daily operational management of the dispensary.
  • Act as a practice supervisor for trainee pharmacy staff when required.
Key Requirements
  • Qualified Pharmacy Technician registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
  • Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) qualification or working towards ACPT qualification.
  • Medicines Optimisation qualification (HEE LaSE) or equivalent.
  • Significant work experience in hospital pharmacy.
  • Awareness of training competency requirements for technical staff (Level 2 & 3).
  • Experience in training and supervision of trainees.
Desirable Criteria
  • Experience of final checking complex prescriptions, e.g., oncology, paediatrics.
  • Experience of team leader or suitable management.
  • Working knowledge/experience of writing SOPs.
  • Oncology pharmacy experience.

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills (written and verbal).

  • Computer literate.
  • Good leadership qualities: able to take responsibility and to delegate effectively.
