Kansas City, Missouri, United States Children's Mercy Full time

Overview

The Biomedical Equipment Technician is responsible for conducting routine and preventive maintenance on electronic medical devices and clinical apparatus within a healthcare setting. This role involves a variety of standard tasks related to the installation, upkeep, calibration, and repair of biomedical equipment, all performed under the guidance and direct supervision of a seasoned healthcare technology management (HTM) professional. The ideal candidate will demonstrate foundational knowledge of the role, requiring supervision or mentoring for more complex assignments. This position is designed for entry-level candidates.

At Children's Mercy, we prioritize creating an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome. A successful candidate will contribute to our mission of fostering a workplace that mirrors the community we serve, aligned with our core values of kindness, curiosity, inclusion, teamwork, and integrity.

It is essential for us to maintain transparency with all prospective candidates. We value the safety of our patients, families, and staff, and as such, the seasonal influenza vaccine is a requirement for employment within our organization. New hires must be prepared to provide proof of vaccination against measles, mumps, rubella (MMR), chicken pox (varicella), and must show evidence of tetanus, diphtheria, and acellular pertussis (Tdap) vaccination since 2005. Selected candidates will be asked to submit their immunization records. Should you have any concerns regarding these vaccinations, medical and/or religious exemptions can be discussed with Human Resources.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance or safety assessments on equipment that requires a general inspection with minimal patient risk.
  • Perform repairs on low-risk, single-component, multiunit medical devices, typically considered general patient care equipment that poses little danger to patients, with backup equipment available if necessary.
  • Undergo training on various equipment to fulfill service duties effectively.
  • Carry out incoming inspections, establish records, and develop preventive maintenance schedules for new equipment, focusing on routine inspections with low patient risk.
  • Manage a parts inventory by ordering replacement components as needed for repairs or as inventory is depleted.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Basic electronics training from a junior college, military, or trade school is required. Factory training may be considered as a substitute. Graduation from a BMET program that includes medical equipment training, medical terminology, and some internship experience in a hospital setting is preferred. No prior experience is necessary; on-the-job training will be provided.
  • AAMI ICC Certification is preferred.
