Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Internal Control Manager to join our team at the Vermont Department of Taxes. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining a robust internal control framework to ensure the effective and efficient administration of tax dollars.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, auditing, and compliance, with experience in implementing and overseeing internal controls for a government or large, complex organization. You will work closely with our leadership team, external partners, and stakeholders to identify and mitigate risks, and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement internal control policies, procedures, and standards to ensure the integrity of our financial systems.
  • Develop and maintain a risk management program to identify, assess, and mitigate potential risks to our organization.
  • Conduct regular audits and reviews to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, and identify areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with our leadership team and external partners to develop and implement corrective action plans to address any identified control weaknesses.
  • Provide training and guidance to our employees on internal control procedures and best practices.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, public administration, business administration, or a related field.
  • Three (3) years or more of professional experience in accounting, auditing, compliance, or a related field.
  • Professional certifications such as CPA, CISA, or CFE are highly desirable.
