Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Internal Control Manager to join our team at the State of Vermont. This is a critical role that requires a strong understanding of internal control and risk management principles, as well as excellent communication and analytical skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and maintain a comprehensive internal control framework to ensure the effective and efficient administration of tax dollars.
  • Develop and maintain a risk management program to identify, assess, and mitigate risks to the Department.
  • Conduct regular audits and reviews to ensure compliance with department, state, and federal policies.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with the IRS and other external parties to ensure compliance with tax laws and regulations.
  • Investigate any alleged unauthorized disclosure of tax information and develop corrective action plans.
  • Lead continuous improvements to internal controls and risk mitigation strategies.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, public administration, business administration, or a related field.
  • Three years or more of professional experience in accounting, auditing, compliance, fraud, or a related field.
  • Strong working knowledge of internal control and audit frameworks.
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional experience implementing and overseeing internal controls for a government or large, complex organization.
  • Accreditation as a CPA, Certified Internal Auditor, Certified Fraud Examiner, or equivalent.
