Wastewater Maintenance Worker

We are seeking a highly skilled Wastewater Maintenance Worker to join our team at the City of Port Hueneme, CA. As a key member of our Public Works department, you will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to the maintenance and repair of our wastewater collection system.
Key Responsibilities- Perform routine and complex maintenance tasks on wastewater collection system infrastructure, including pipes, pumps, and valves.
- Operate and maintain heavy equipment, such as backhoes and cranes, to perform tasks such as excavation and pipe installation.
- Conduct inspections and testing of wastewater collection system components to ensure proper function and identify potential issues.
- Respond to emergency situations, such as sewer backups and overflows, to minimize disruptions and ensure public health and safety.
- Collaborate with other departments and agencies to coordinate maintenance and repair activities.
- Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by vocational/technical training in wastewater collection systems.
- One year of experience and/or training involving wastewater, storm drain collection systems, or water distribution systems.
- Possession of a CWEA Collection System Maintenance Grade I certification within 18 months of appointment.
- Possession of a valid California driver's license and satisfactory driving record with the ability to obtain a State of California Class "B" commercial driver's license with tanker certification within six months of appointment.
This position requires working in a fast-paced environment with frequent exposure to physical demands, including heavy lifting, bending, and climbing. The employee must be able to work in confined spaces and at heights, and be able to wear personal protective equipment as required.
