Seasonal Maintenance Worker for Streets/Stormwater/Sewer

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Seasonal Maintenance Worker to join our team in the Streets/Stormwater/Sewer division of the City of Port Townsend Public Works Department.
Key Responsibilities- Perform a variety of tasks including maintenance of park facilities, janitorial duties in public buildings, repair work to various streets, wastewater collection, and stormwater collection.
- Assist in trash pickup, weeding in the right-of-way, painting, trail maintenance, and special events preparation.
- Operate equipment such as riding and push lawn mowers, line trimmers, backpack blowers, edgers, and hedgers.
- Perform routine repair and maintenance tasks on equipment.
- Assist in the maintenance and repairs of wastewater and stormwater facilities.
- Flag traffic control and assist in the painting of street parking and crosswalks.
- Set out and take down traffic control devices.
- Remove unwanted weeds from rights-of-way and developed landscapes.
- Clean and maintain public restrooms, picnic shelters, picnic tables, garbage cans, and other facilities.
- Must be at least 18 years old at the time of hire.
- Valid Washington driver's license and ability to maintain a driving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrier.
- Ability to perform physical work outdoors under all weather conditions.
- Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public and co-workers.
- Must pass criminal background check.
- Previous experience working for a parks and recreation department/organization/agency.
- Horticulture experience including local plant identification skills.
- Equipment maintenance experience.
- Custodial experience.
- Washington State Flagger certification course.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
Duties are performed primarily in the outdoors during all types of weather.
Walking for extended periods of time.
Repeated bending at the waist, kneeling, or crouching.
Ability to lift, push, and pull 60 pounds.
Vision and hearing at level required to perform essential functions (may be corrected).
Physical and visual ability sufficient to perform required duties effectively and safely and to safely operate required equipment and City vehicle as needed.
