Practice Assistant II

Brigham and Women's Hospital is seeking a highly skilled Practice Assistant II to join our team. As a key member of our administrative staff, you will provide exceptional support to our healthcare professionals, ensuring seamless patient care and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide administrative support to healthcare professionals, including scheduling, registration, and billing.
- Act as a super user for scheduling, registration, and billing systems, providing training and assistance to others.
- Perform complex or specialized functions, such as surgical scheduling, at a high level of competency.
- Utilize knowledge of HMOs, managed care, and other third-party insurers to troubleshoot insurance issues.
- Assist with training and orienting staff as needed, providing cross-coverage and supporting special projects.
- Follow HIPAA guidelines for patient privacy and confidentiality.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED required; post-high school education preferred.
- Minimum one year of applicable work experience required.
- Additional training in office systems preferred.
Skills and Competencies:
- Technical skills: knowledge of practice operations and standards, understanding of procedures, and phone skills.
- Verbal skills: ability to interpret information, answer routine questions, and communicate in a professional manner.
- Organization skills: ability to manage work processes, sort and alphabetize, and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Writing skills: ability to correspond and communicate with others clearly and effectively.
- System skills: ability to type and enter data, understand applicable systems, and use medical terminology.
Working Conditions:
Hospital-based ambulatory practice with some exposure to communicable diseases, unpleasant odors, needles, and blood products.
Hospital-Wide Responsibilities:
Works within legal, regulatory, accreditation, and ethical practice standards, follows safe practices, and complies with hospital policies and procedures.
