Job Summary

The Town of Ashland is seeking a highly skilled Water Technician III to join its Water/Sewer Division within the Department of Public Works. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for operating essential water and sewer equipment, performing maintenance and repairs to the water distribution system and sewer collection system, and ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the water and sewer infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate water and sewer equipment, including pumps, generators, and vehicles, to perform maintenance and repairs to the water distribution system and sewer collection system.
  • Inspect and maintain pump stations, generators, and vehicles to ensure they are in good working condition.
  • Perform water meter installations, hydrant replacements, and maintenance, and flushing as directed.
  • Read and interpret engineering blueprints and specifications to ensure compliance with regulations and standards.
  • Maintain and record daily activity, including work orders and maintenance records.
  • Participate in training related to pumps, valves, electrical systems, SCADA, generators, and other key components and equipment related to the water distribution system and sewer collection system.
  • Assist with ensuring the Water and Sewer Department is in compliance with Local, State, and Federal regulations.
  • Perform related duties as required, including other matters as may be determined from time to time by the DPW Director.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Seven (7) years' experience in public works and/or construction industry.
  • Computer skills for recording and research.
  • CDL Class B w/Air Brake Endorsement.
  • Hoisting 2A/1C and 4G.
  • Tanker Endorsement.
  • Massachusetts Water Distribution II Certificate.
  • Backflow Technician (preferred).
  • Mass DEP Backflow Surveyor Tester Inspection License (preferred).
Working Conditions

The Water Technician III will work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent operation of vehicles and power- and manual-hand tools. The position requires the ability to work in a team environment, communicate effectively with employees, supervisors, and the general public, and maintain a safe and efficient work environment.
